It’s hard to keep major events under wraps when you’re in the limelight, but Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed that she managed to keep her wedding a secret for a whole two years. And it wasn’t investigative journalism or Internet sleuths that uncovered the revelation, but the actress herself.
To celebrate her anniversary, Taylor-Joy shared with her followers that she married her now-husband, Malcolm McRae, during a New Orleans ceremony attended by Cara Delevingne.
In photos posted to Instagram, the Last Night in Soho star unveiled a custom Dior strapless wedding dress that featured an embroidered hummingbird on the bust and a floral motif that extended down the tulle skirt. As to what the motifs symbolise, she noted that the dress was embroidered with the couple’s “love story”, hinting at a deeper meaning behind the imagery.
In line with her eclectic taste, the actress also included snaps of cakes resembling bleeding anatomical hearts, to which she noted she was the “vampire Lestat”, a reference to Tom Cruise’s immortal character in Interview with the Vampire.
“Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever,” she wrote alongside the photos.
“Happy second ( first ) anniversary, my love…you’re the coolest🫀”
McRae, who performs in the band more*, also shared a sweet message with his wife on the occasion.
“I love you now, and somehow I always have, and somehow it will never end,” he wrote on his Instagram. “Happy two year anniversary (yesterday), beautiful.”
Taylor-Joy, 27, and McRae, 29, have been linked since 2021. Though they tend to keep a low profile, and it’s unknown how the actress and musician met, they’ve been photographed exhibiting PDA many times over the years. Their engagement went under the radar until June 2022, when Taylor-Joy was spotted wearing an engagement ring while stepping off a plane in Australia. But as it turns out, the duo were, in fact, already hitched by then.
In an interview with British Vogue, she briefly addressed the relationship, gushing about their connection.
“I’ve finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading,” she said. “We’re basically 80 years old and 7 at the same time, and it works really well.”
