The “secret” marriage of a conjoined twin only hit the headlines last week – and drama has already unfolded.
It’s been reported that Abby Hensel’s husband has been struck with a paternity suit by his ex-wife – a woman he split with just two years before tying the knot with the well-known twin.
Public records show Abby, now 34, from Minnesota, wed Josh Bowling, 33, a nurse and army veteran back in 2021. Abby, and her sister Brittany, are conjoined – and their story was documented on a TLC show.

Josh’s ex-wife, Annica Bowling, is said to have filed the lawsuit in October 2023 – nearly two years after the couple’s wedding. Daily Mail claims it’s seen records which show Annica filed the suit against Josh and another man, known as Gavin Vatnsdal.
Josh and Annica got hitched in 2010 before going their separate ways in 2019, according to court records. They share custody of their eight-year-old daughter, Isabella.
The pair finalised their divorce on April 23, 2020, and Annica went onto have another child that year. Court documents refer to the second child as “Isabella’s half-sister.”
It’s not transparent which child paternity is being tested for, but a genetic test report was handed to the court on March 7, but this cannot be viewed by the public.
Josh’s daughter was at her father’s wedding to Abby where she was seen wearing a pretty floral bridesmaid’s dress, while walking down the aisle with a sign that read: “Daddy… Here Comes Your Bride.”
It’s thought the father, who works with hospice patients, now lives with the twins, as his Facebook page implies so. Snaps shared show the family – including his young daughter – enjoying time outdoors and having some spooky fun at Halloween.
Abby and Brittany are one of only a few dicephalus twins in history to go onto live into adult life. They became well-known when they stared in a TLC show which documented how they live their lives – from their high school graduation to looking for jobs.
On TikTok they also share content from their account under the name @abbyandbrittanyhensel. Recently, a video was shared which revealed a glimpse of what Abby’s wedding day looked like, and their Facebook account also featured a picture of the happy couple.
Records indicate the ceremony took place back in 2021 and, at the time, the sisters were seen wearing a sleeveless wedding dress with intricate lace trim detailing. Meanwhile, the groom was seen donning a grey suit.
Other videos have also seen the happy couple enjoying a dance on their big day. After rumours started circulating, they then spoke out about the “secret” event.
Posting on their joint TikTok account, the twins said: “The internet is extra LOUD today.” Abby and Brittany also shared some snaps of ancient sculptures conveying the image of conjoined twins, adding: “We have always been around.”
They also shared a clip which showed a photo with Josh, adding: “This is a message to all the haters out there. If you don’t like what I do, but watch everything I’m doing, you’re still a fan.”
Abby and Brittany both work as fifth grade math teachers at an elementary school in New Brighton, Minnesota. This is the area where they were born and raised.
The sisters share a single body, and from the waist down. Every one of their organs – including the intestine, bladder and reproductive organs – are shared between them.
When the girls were teens, their mother opened up about their life in a documentary, where she explained they hoped to have children of their own one day. She said: “That is probably something that could work because those organs do work for them.”
