While the venue of the Jathedi-Minz wedding, a marriage lawn, was adorned with flowers and orange fabric, with village women singing traditional wedding songs, Tunda’s marital union was a hush-hush affair with only 16 people invited to the ceremony under the guard of the Special Cell, 3rd Battalion, Crime Branch and Delhi Police.

Besides, unlike Jathedi, Tunda’s partner is a commoner with no history of crime.

Tunda, a member of the Gogi Gang, who currently resides in Tihar jail, was granted a six-hour custody parole (from 12pm to 6pm) for his wedding by the Delhi High Court. He gained infamy in May 2023 when he allegedly murdered another inmate from a rival gang, Tillu Tajpuria, as revenge for killing his gang’s head Jitender Mann alias Gogi.

“Yogesh reached the venue amid tight security around 12.15 on Friday afternoon where his wife-to-be, Neetu, was waiting along with her father, mother and brother,” said one of Tunda’s legal representatives, Abhishek Tyagi.

According to Tunda’s counsel Virendra Maul, Yogesh and Neetu have been in a long-term relationship for the last nine years. “Basically, it’s a love marriage…The two knew each other before Yogesh’s jail days. Neetu even came to meet him in jail several times,” Maul said.
The guest list of 16 people was limited to the bride and groom’s parents, siblings and close relatives. “No 17th person was allowed inside the temple, with the only exception being the security personnel accompanying my client,” said Tyagi. The wedding was earlier supposed to take place in another venue in Tis Hazari but was changed due to security concerns, said one of Tunda’s lawyers Manish Godara.

However, not everyone at the venue was happy with the wedding. A family, which had come to the temple for their son’s last rites, said they were not allowed to enter the premises until the wedding concluded. “We had booked the venue from 4pm, but we aren’t allowed to go in,” said the sister of the deceased man.

Even the police personnel did not seem too happy with their “posting”. Talking to The Indian Express, on the condition of anonymity, a police official said, “Is this what the police is meant to do? Attend criminal marriages and provide security to them? Are they some sort of celebrities?”
