A grandma has been hailed a ‘hero’ for teaching a guest a valuable lesson after she showed up to a wedding in a white gown. Taking to Reddit, the groom explained how his auntie tried to ‘upstage’ his bride by wearing a wedding dress to his special day.
However, his grandma, mother-in-law, and even the priest stepped in to put an end to her antics. He said: “Two people showed up to our wedding in white – one was a mistake and one was an a**hole. One did it completely by accident just thinking it was a pretty dress for a nice summer day. Apparently, my mum politely said something and this aunt ran home to change.
“She apologised to my wife and me. We didn’t even know it had happened, but we appreciated how she was so embarrassed by it and felt the need to apologise despite no one seeing her but my mum.” However, another aunt made a deliberate choice to wear a ‘real wedding dress’ in a bid to steal the limelight and express her disapproval of the marriage.
The groom explained: “Now for the a**hole – this aunt is a passive-aggressive racist. I’ll admit that she’s extremely intelligent and uses semantics with her insults so she can always bust out, ‘Oh hun, no no no, I didn’t mean it like that! ‘ She wore what was essentially a sequinned wedding dress that looked like a pearl coat paint job. It had a little silvery tint to it and it really accentuated her enormous boobs. She wore this to be the most noticeable person at the wedding.”
He explained how his auntie disapproved of his wife due to her race, persistently commenting on her complexion throughout the day. He stated: “I saw her first and asked my mum if this aunt was actually wearing a real wedding dress. I mean, it had all the little tight ruffles and designs.” His mum confronted her saying: “My mother ran up and told her it was ‘bold to wear a wedding dress to a wedding when you’re not the bride.”
The aunt retorted that it wasn’t a wedding dress but merely a ‘formal gown that’s not white, like the bride. ‘ She waved off any criticism exclaiming, ‘Oh hun, no-no-no, I didn’t mean it like that! You’re terrible! I meant that it’s not white like the bride wears! Oh, you’re terrible!’ The groom’s mum recommended the aunt change her outfit given she lives around the corner from the venue. He added: “My mother told her she should change since we were literally three blocks from this aunt’s house.
“She could have walked home, changed, and made it back long before the ceremony started. I surmised that she arrived early so she could be noticed.” However, when the groom tried to mediate the situation, offering to take her home so she could change dresses, she refused, responding with a sly jibe: “Only someone really petty would be upset by a silver dress, and I know you’re not petty like that, right? “.
He added: “That’s my grandmother came in like a bulldozer and said ‘No, but I am, so change your dress, you dumb ****’. My grandmother is awesome. A louder argument with some of grandma’s favourite filthy expletives ensued and our priest, Father Mike came running out after he heard someone in his church yelling [swear words] multiple times.”
“That’s when it got shut down. Father Mike looks at my aunt and says, ‘Are you the bride? ‘ My aunt says no. He says, ‘Then go home and change. You know better.’ Aunt starts to say something and Father Mike holds up one finger, presses it to his lips, and says ‘Shhhh… less talking…. More walking. You will not be welcome for this ceremony if you’re not dressed appropriately. Don’t test me.'”.
However, it didn’t end there as the groom explained how his auntie returned in a black jumpsuit complete with a veil, much to his dismay. Relief finally appeared in the form of his mother-in-law who intervened and defused the situation. Much awkwardness unfolded on the big day each event attracting multiple responses on Reddit. Most users commended his feisty grandma for defending the bride while others condemned his discourteous and insensitive auntie.
One commentator posted: “Grandma, Father Mike, and your wife’s mum are the heroes of this story.” Another chipped in with: “Holy cow. It seems like you have many sensible people around you! Surprised the a**hole aunt never absorbed any of that sensibility.” A third added: “Father Mike, your mother-in-law, and your grandmother are all legends. I would love to hear more stories about your grandmother.”
