The wedding of Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan was a long time coming, however not all fans of the show were left impressed with its on-screen portrayal.
Virgin River fans have been left baffled by the wedding scene in the Netflix hit. Some fans even go as far to say they can’t engage with the series any longer, as they took to social media to blast the ‘bonkers’ set-up.
The popular Netflix show has continued to draw in large audiences, detailing the turbulent love tale of leading lady Mel Monroe opposite Martin Henderson’s Jack Sheridan. Originally based on American author Robyn Carr’s book series.
Taking to Reddit, one fan commented on the wedding scene: “It was so chaotic it was bordering on comedic. I understand why Mel needed a moment, but then her and Jack running off on the horse with no explanation to the guests for the delay was so bizarre.”
“AND THEN Jack chose that spot by the river that was all sandy, when her dress had a train?????? That could’ve ruined her dress lmao,” they pointed out.
They continued, “Then there was the bit where Hope was forced to stall for time by making a speech about love because nobody but Preacher knew what was going on. Not to mention Brie, Brady, and Lark working out their love triangle drama at someone else’s wedding, like this is not the time for that?”
“Also Mike proposing to Brie after the reception because he knew she cheated? And Everett magically being able to attend and sing after having had a heart attack literal hours beforehand. The only normal thing that happened imo was Cameron and Muriel’s goodbye scene lol,” they concluded.
Fans soon took to the comments to echo the fans thoughts. One wrote: “I agree that the entire scene was frantic. No need for that level of drama. Mel & Jack on horseback escaping. Ridiculous and rude.”
They continued: “She should have worked out her feelings long before the actual day of the wedding. Hope trying to stall the wedding- so cringe & awkward even for Hope. Preacher just bugs me. Every line is like he is trying to win an Emmy. Just calm down is always what I want to tell him. Brie & Mike- nope. Ridiculous. He proposed even though he knows the truth? Just nope.”
Someone else noted, “Brady & Lark and Lark draining his bank account did not have to be at the reception. Mel’s dad singing then Cameron as his chaperone? Just too much. Muriel seems needy around Cameron. He is so dismissive of her. Should have been just a simple wedding. None of these sub-plots had to muddy up the day. Let Mel & Jack have just a normal wedding.”
One person offered a different perspective, as they said: “Personally, narratively, I think the whole scene was a cludge to have Jack provide deeply moving and intimate vows to Mel, since as a character that is not something he would ever do in front of a couple hundred people. But it created way more problems than it solved.”
Although one pointed out, “Yes, but we got the aerial shot of Mel and Jack on the horse, so it was all worth it lol.”
Meanwhile, fans have long been blasting the on-screen adaptation of the Netflix hit, with some even going as far to say they have been refusing to watch the show as it has ‘ruined’ the books.
One person noted on the same thread, “The entire episode was really horrible. It’s just sad. The books were so wonderful. This is now like one of those thirty year run of soap operas. what was it? young and the restless or something like that.”
Another said: “They’ve turned a feel good book series that’s supposed to be good for self reflection etc. to cheap soap opera on par with real house wives dramas.”
“I’m in book 8 right now and I can’t watch the show anymore. It’s a shame because it was like my comfort show. I love small towns and small town people. It has this very cozy vibe to me. Now it’s just cringy,” shared someone else.
However some people did praise the episode, with one noting: “Mel actually did not ride on the horse, she said herself. I thought the entire wedding was magnificent. Not sure about Jack going to Charmaine’s the morning after wedding. I don’t know any married couple would allow that. I am hoping that Brie and Brady get together in Season 7.”
