RTE’s Ursula Jacob recalls ‘perfect’ wedding day to husband Brendan full of ‘love and laughter’

by R.Donald

Camogie legend and RTE sports pundit Ursula Jacob has opened up to Chic Magazine this weekend about her best memories, best beauty product, best holiday and more

Best Memory

My wedding day will always be a stand out moment. I got married to my other half Brendan on December 28th, 2021 and it’s a day I’ll never forget. It was a day filled with so much love and laughter (and some tears), surrounded by all of our family and closest friends. I remember smiling from start to finish and still look back on the day with such happiness. Everything was perfect and married life has been great since! A stand out moment for me during my sports career would be captaining Wexford to Senior All Ireland success in 2011. It was always a dream of mine to do this!

Best Actor/Actress

As an avid romcom fan, my favourite actor is Hugh Grant and favourite actress is Sandra Bullock. I think they have both played some really memorable roles over the years and have always had the ability to bring a great sense of humour to whatever roles they’ve played.

Best Gig

I’m a big concert goer and love the buzz and experience of listening to live music. My favourite concert was in fact my first one! It was a Westlife concert back in 2000 in The Point Depot (as it was called then). My sister and I were so excited and even saw the Westlife lads drive past us in their sports cars as we walked to the venue. Loved them then and still do! Met Shane Filan, a number of years ago, as I headed to an Ed Sheeran concert. I was completely starstruck I couldn’t get any words out!!

Best Song

From Now On from the movie The Greatest Showman is definitely right up there! Love the words and beat to it. Another song I’ve always loved and would be my party piece (if pushed for one) is Past The Point of Rescue by Mary Black.

Best Book

I’m probably not the best person to ask this question to as I’m not a big reader. I’m the complete opposite to my husband on this! I’m mostly found reading “Peppa loves Australia” or “Funny Bones” to my 3 year and 1 year old before bedtime and I love how much they enjoy those books.

Best Movie

I’ve always been a huge fan of rom coms but my favourite movie to watch over and over would be The Greatest Showman . I love the storyline, the actors and most of all the soundtrack. I remember going to the cinema two or three times to see it and loving every bit of it!

Best Holiday

A stand out holiday for me was when my sister Helena and I brought our mam to New York City in June 2017. We went there for five days and packed in so much during this time- visits to the Statue of Liberty and 9/11 museum, walks around Central Park, Broadway shows, shopping sprees around the outlets and lots more. Would love to go back again to see more!

Best Restaurant

The Alamo restaurant in the Riverside Park Hotel will always be my favourite. Every time I go there I choose the same food – bacon and cheese potato skins for starters, chicken curry with rice and chips for mains and their signature brownie for dessert. I’d highly recommend for anyone to try it out. Best arrive with an empty stomach though!

Best Beauty Product

Hollywood Flawless Filter by Charlotte Tilbury, shade 4 is probably one of those products I’ve used most and will always go back to! It gives such a good glow and hides the bags under my eyes when I’m sleep deprived!

Best Friend

My sister Helena and I have always had an extremely special relationship. We’ve shared so many brilliant moments over the years and she’s always been there for me through everything. She is great at giving me advice, supporting me in whatever I do, always has my back and most importantly cooks me lots of nice food!

Best Joke

My best bad joke would be- Why was Cinderella so bad at Camogie? Because she kept running away from the ball!

Best Advice

My parents always instilled in me to back myself and have a strong sense of self-belief in whatever I do. I always loved this quote by Roy. T. Bennett “Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know and capable of more than you imagine.”
