This year, MARVEL’S VOICES: PRIDE makes history with Marvel’s first woman-to-woman wedding! And with a couple as complex as these two, you know there’s a lot more to the story. In the classic tradition of FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #3 and X-MEN #30, this anthology will be a must-read for every comics fan. We promise party crashing! Villainy! Romance! And so much more! |
X-Men: The Wedding Special #1, from writers Kieron Gillen, Tini Howard, Tate Brombal, Yoon Ha Lee and Wyatt Kennedy with artists yet to be announced, will be a huge, gay, anthology spectacular, with stories featuring other iconic queer Marvel heroes like Rachel Summers and Betsy Braddock, all centered around Destiny and Mystique’s historic wedding.
Mystique And Destiny Look Stunning In Their Wedding Looks
Jan Bazaldua’s cover for X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 is downright gorgeous, depicting the sapphic couple in all their beautiful glory. While Mystique is wearing a fabulous white suit with gold detailing, Destiny is showing off her youth in a truly breathtaking dress, choosing not to wear her famous mask so that her wife can see her face as she reads her vows. Bazaldua’s cover includes wedding guests from the Avengers and Fantastic Four, hilarious attendees at the wedding of two women who were considered to be violent mutant terrorists for most of their comic history.
The main Mystique and Destiny wedding story will be written by the brilliant Kieron Gillen, whose Immortal X-Men series depicted the most intimate and important scenes of Irene and Raven’s development during the Krakoan Age. For the first time in their long publishing history, Destiny and Mystique were finally able to explicitly be married, instead of the queer subtext that Chris Claremont wrote into their stories after their initial introductions. Irene and Raven paved the way for the many queer characters that now roam Marvel’s pages, so it is really lovely that this year’s Marvel’s Voices: Pride is honoring the two women so intimately.
Nightcrawler Will Be Helping His Mothers Renew Their Vows
Mystique and Destiny’s adopted daughter Rogue, who has long considered the two women her mothers, is featured alongside other X-Men in Bazaldua’s cover, but the real star is Nightcrawler, who looks to be officiating Irene and Raven’s vows. Kurt, who has been an ordained minister in the past, recently discovered the truth about his parentage in X-Men Blue: Origins, where it was revealed that Destiny and Mystique are his biological parents, not Azazel and Mystique. Even though the three have a lot of reconciliation and healing to do, it is powerful and heartwarming to see Nightcrawler with such an important role in his mothers’ wedding.
Marvel promises that their Marvel’s Voices: Pride special will include tons of romance, villainy, and party crashing, making for a joyous, raucous anthology celebrating some of the most beloved queer characters of all time, written and illustrated by talented queer creators. After decades of their relationship shrouded in mystery, the exciting nuptials of X-Men antiheroes Mystique and Destiny will finally be honored, as the two queer women renew their loving vows.
