Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum are one of Hollywood’s latest power couples, but that doesn’t mean that she’s ready to expedite their engagement and think about starting a family.

In a new interview with Esquire, Kravitz discussed her directorial debut, Blink Twice, revealing that she mat Tatum during the casting process, and the couple started dating shortly before filming. It’s no secret that her father, Lenny Kravitz, is a fan of their relationship—he even once let it slip during his June appearance on the Zoë Ball and Friends podcast that “we’re going to have a wedding next year.” But according to Zoe, her dad’s timeline isn’t set in stone.

“It’s literally something we’ve said in passing,” Zoë told Esquire. “Like, maybe I said, ‘Next year would be cool.'” Even if Lenny was right, it’s very unlikely that Zoë would reveal an exact timeline—she and and Tatum were quietly engaged in October, and the pair never officially went on the record to confirm the rumors (despite her being spotted with a ring on her wedding finger).

After marriage often comes children, but Zoë has other plans for her future—and she considers her projects her babies.

“For a long time, I felt like there was something wrong with me,” she told the magazine about her lack of desire to become a mother. “I was waiting for this light to go off in my head, and it never did. When you’re younger, you’re like, ‘Well, I can’t have kids. I’m too young! It’d be crazy.’ I had to actually look at what do I want.”

“For a lot of people that have children, it is this giant, life-changing event—and I do think there is a certain amount of focus and respect that they should get from their community,” Zoë added, noting that she wants the same amount of respect for her work that women receive for being mothers. “There’s a lot of pressure on women to have children, and there’s a feeling that if you don’t, you don’t have purpose here. But this movie, it feels like I gave birth.”

Tatum is already a parent to his 11-year-old daughter, Everly—whom he shares with ex-wife Jenna Dewan (the former couple divorced in 2018)—meaning that Zoë will become a stepmom once she and Tatum tie the knot.
