A BILLIONAIRE who gave The Simpsons their big break has docked his luxury yacht in a Scots harbour.

The Eos, a three-masted Bermuda rigged schooner is owned by movie and media billionaire Barry Diller, husband of fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg, mother of Prince Alexander von Fürstenberg and Princess Tatiana von Fürstenberg.

It had previously spent time off Ullapool after a journey from Hamburg, Germany.

Previous guests on the superyacht include Oprah Winfrey, Emma Thomson and Jeff Bezos, according to Business Insider.

In 2020 Mr Diller’s wealth was put at $4.6 billion (£3.7billion) – though Forbes say his current worth is $4.1 billion (£3.3billion).

Mr Diller, creator of Fox Broadcasting Company and USA Broadcasting, is the Chairman of Expedia and the Chairman and Senior Executive of IAC/InterActive Corp – parent of companies including Home Shopping Network, Ticketmaster, Match.com and others.

In 2005, Mr Diller received $295 million in compensation, the highest of any executive in the United States.

His ship – said to be one of the biggest private sailing yachts in the world – is valued in excess of $200 million (£160m).

The 305-foot Eos was launched in Bremen, Germany from the Lürssen yard in 2006 and took three years to build.

When launched, she knocked Athena off the number one spot for the largest sailing yacht.

The controversial and highly innovative 142.8-metre Sailing Yacht A is now considered the world’s largest. At 92.92 metres Eos is currently ranked fifth.

Little is known about Eos’s interior, kept a secret apparently by Mr. Diller, but it is believed to boast a glass staircase and panoramic views astern.

But the super-rich do fly into the town’s airport to join their ships after a private jet Atlantic crossing.

Mr Diller also served for 10 years as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Pictures Corporation from 1974 until 1984.

With Mr Diller at the helm, the studio produced hit television programs such as Laverne & Shirley (1976), Taxi (1978), and Cheers (1982) and films that include Saturday Night Fever (1977), Grease (1978), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and sequel Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Terms of Endearment (1983), and Beverly Hills Cop (1984).

At Fox, he greenlighted shows such as Married… with Children and The Simpsons.

Animator David Silverman modeled Mr. Burns’s appearance on Mr Diller, and his body on a praying mantis.

But on June 30, 2012, Mr Diller’s beloved ship caught fire outside the island of Ormøya in Oslo, Norway.

Mr Diller and his wife were ashore at the time. The fire did, however, cause severe damage to the top decks, whilst the rest of the yacht escaped virtually undamaged. Mr Diller described the incident as being “no problem”, emphasizing his relief that everyone escaped unharmed.
