Isaac Burrough Design unveils 60m automotive-inspired superyacht concept Karros

New Zealand-based studio Isaac Burrough Design has unveiled a new, 60-metre superyacht concept inspired entirely by automotive design.

Known as Karros – derived from the ancient Gaulish meaning “wheeled vehicle” – the motor yacht has been conceived with the same design thinking that defines the “world’s most considered cars”, with lines that “pull surface into tension” for a profile of light and shadow. Particular attention can be given to the sculptural “crease line” that runs around the front of the superstructure and the hull panel, which is slightly recessed below the main deck to maximise interior volume.

The brief for Karros revolved around generous accommodation, a considered layout and efficient use of space. As such, the yacht offers plenty of seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces, particularly on the main deck aft, which is blended with the beach club and swim platform to form a single leisure environment, complemented by a glass infinity pool. When deployed, the beach club doors provide a direct connection to the swim platform, allowing for greater connection between the deck and sea.

Further entertaining space can be found on the bridge deck, which is equipped with an al fresco dining area and a fire pit, alongside the bridge and the captain’s cabin.

Accommodation is for 12 guests in a six-cabin layout, comprising four guest suites and a VIP cabin with large main deck windows. The owner’s suite is found on a private deck above, benefitting from panoramic views forward, dual mirrored en suites and dressing rooms, a private office and a separate lounge. Direct access is also given to the forward terrace.

Notably, crew infrastructure for 13 has been integrated discreetly into Karros’ design, with features including concealed pantries, a food lift and dedicated circulation routes.

Key specs include an 11.2-metre beam and a three-metre draught

Efficient storage space can be found forward, where a large garage houses a 7.5-metre guest tender, a 6.2-metre crew tender, PWCs and water toys – deliberately away from the stern so as not to disturb the aft leisure environment.

“With Karros, I wanted to meet every spatial requirement and still create something that is beautiful, something you choose the way you choose a great car, on desire rather than data,” concluded studio founder, Isaac Burrough.

The studio presented a futuristic 80-metre superyacht concept named Stratos last year.
