Sanlorenzo Yachts
You’d be forgiven for expecting M to have a rugged, moody interior to match its brawny exterior—which includes its own seaplane. The interior, however, is a pleasantly surprising contradiction. It’s delicate and filled with special details that make it clear the vessel has been carefully customized with an eye for detail. After all, the design of explorer yachts tend to lean one of two ways: clean and pared-back, or cozy and comfortable. For this yacht though, the owner wanted something fresh and design-oriented.
The owner also leaned in hard when it came to upgrades and special touches that added $3 million to the final price. The crane on the aft deck, for instance, is capable of hoisting 7.5 tons, significantly more than the other yachts in Sanlorenzo’s EXP series. At the other extreme, the owner’s obsession with creating a seamless audio visual system included a special sound system integrated into the overheads. No ugly speakers or tell-tale wires—and all the controls panels are discreetly stowed away in little ‘nerve center’ closets on each deck.
M was one of the hotly anticipated yachts at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in March and last week won a World Superyacht Award. Since introducing the EXP line to the market almost 10 years ago, Sanlorenzo modified the series from its original 138 feet LOA to a longer, leaner 154 feet. Twelve vessels in the EXP series have been built to date. Most of the yachts have the same basic lines and style, but M has an interesting gray-blue hue that immediately sets its apart. Other more intangible details help distinguish it in a crowded brokerage market, as it’s currently for sale for $35,995,000 through Fraser and TWW Yachts.
Here are 7 features that make M a standout.
-
It Comes With the Plane
Image Credit: Fraser Yachts M was specifically designed to carry an Icon A5 seaplane, a two-seat sport aircraft known for being extremely lightweight and easy to fly. It sometimes sits on M’s spacious aft deck, but also fits in the beach club. Special rails in the floor allow the amphibious plane to run into the water on wheels. Sanlorenzo even built a special grille in the transom to accommodate the nose of the plane so it could be tucked up safely inside.

An Upscale Hotel Design
Image Credit: Fraser Yachts London-based Studio Indigo took up the interior of the yacht (with Florentine studio Francesco Paszkowski on the exteriors). The brand’s impressive portfolio includes swanky London residences such as the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair and 80 Holland Park Villas. Along with its on-shore address book, the studio has also worked on multiple yachts over the years. M is the latest creation. Working with a color palette of crisp creams, powder blue. and dusky pinks, Studio Indigo gave the yacht a modern Art Deco feel with the use of plants, brass accents, and retro-styled light fixtures.

Hidden Doors
Image Credit: Fraser Yachts M has a slightly different layout compared to other models in Sanlorenzo’s EXP series when it comes to the beach club. The layout allows you to directly access the overwater terrace from the swim platform, a big convenience. In the owner’s suite, another overwater balcony (pictured) means you can enjoy a morning cup of joe or an evening aperitif privately in the fresh air. This balcony works with the push of a button and comes with a sliding glass screen that keeps the cold out, but allows natural light in.

Rooms With a View
Image Credit: Fraser Yachts While it has the usual full-beam bedroom and stunning ensuite, M’s multifaceted owner’s suite also includes a separate office space for working at sea and a balcony for taking an oceanside break. The office was made possible by reducing the size of the en suite. The entire apartment is private, spacious, and filled with light.

The Helipad
Image Credit: Fraser Yachts The aft deck covers an impressive amount of real estate, with ample room to store Jet Skis, the 33-foot tender, or even a helicopter. As mentioned, the space is intended for the Icon seaplane, with alternative uses. That is one of the reasons why M doesn’t have a pool on the aft deck. When all the toys and tenders are deployed, the space becomes a sun lounge where guests can enjoy sunrise yoga sessions or sunbathing in between zipping around on the Jet Skis.

Stylin’ on the Sundeck
Image Credit: TWW Yachts The sundeck’s hot tub faces forward for privacy in port. The space is well thought out, with the shaded amidships section featuring a bar, sofa seating, and a games table. Aft are a group of large sunpads. It’s an area that everyone can enjoy. Cards, drinks, snoozing, or just reading a book—in or out of the hot tub—all are possible, offering both conviviality or privacy.

Underwater Detective

This owner-mandated solution is unusual on a superyacht, but useful for shallow-water destinations like the Bahamas or Sardinia. It’s an addition that makes this explorer even more appropriate to cruising around the globe.
