From its inception in March 2004 as part of Mankiewicz, a global paint manufacturer, to becoming a leading name in high-end yacht coatings, the company reflects on its journey, challenges, and aspirations for the future.
Under the slogan ‘It’s about time’, Alexseal embarked on its journey, aiming to revolutionise the market for yacht coatings. Thomas Schultz, global sales director at Alexseal, reminisces about the early days and the vision of launching a complete portfolio of coatings under the brand name ALEXSEAL Yacht Coatings.
“Developing and applying yacht paints is considered one of the fine arts in the coatings industry,” he said. “There are an incredible number of industries where the highest demands are placed on the finish, the surfaces to be painted are rarely as large and demanding as on a superyacht.
“If the performance of the topcoat is not at 100%, you cannot achieve a mirror-like surface appearance.”
Over the years, Alexseal overcame these challenges through meticulous research and development, drawing on Mankiewicz’s rich history and experience. “We had an experienced team and colleagues who could quickly adapt to the yacht industry,” stated Schultz, highlighting the company’s ability to leverage synergies across different sectors.
Since its introduction, Alexseal coatings have gained recognition worldwide, with nearly 40 percent of the world’s largest yachts now coated with Alexseal systems. Today, Alexseal’s influence extends across continents, with projects painted worldwide. From superyachts in Europe to sportfish yachts in the USA and emerging markets in Asia, the company’s commitment to personalised support ensures a perfect finish every time.
Looking ahead, Schultz envisions further innovation, particularly with systems like the BaseCoat/ClearCoat approach. “This is the direction we consider significant for the coming years,” he observed, emphasising the company’s dedication to meeting diverse customer needs.
