Eau Claire Express swept Thunder Bay in a two-game set, winning 7-4 on Sunday.
EAU CLAIRE – The Thunder Bay Border Cats have to learn to win on the road.
At home, they’re one of the top teams in the league, sporting an 8-2 record. Away from Port Arthur Stadium, they’re simply dismal, with one win in nine games heading into Sunday’s series finale in Eau Claire.
They’re still looking for win No.2.
The Express scored twice in the sixth to erase a 3-2 Thunder Bay lead, then added three more in the seventh and went on to down the Border Cats 7-4 on Sunday.
Cade Palkowski walked four times and scored three runs for the Express, who scored twice on wild pitches and once on a bases loaded walk.
Designated hitter Hayden Crites homered for the Border Cats, just the team’s third of the season. Catcher Ayden Hadley was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Braden Gluth got the start for Thunder Bay and allowed two runs on four hits and four walks over five innings. Reliever Judd Hildreth took the loss, taking over with one out in the sixth. He was tagged for three runs, walking four batters.
As a team, the Border Cats walked 12 Eau Claire hitters. Eau Claire reliever Quinten Marsh earned the win in relief of starter Luke Ryerse.
The Border Cats move west to Duluth for a pair against the Huskies and return home on Wednesday to host Waterloo.
