Ducks for Dogs races into Vernon

Rubber duck racing is raising money for guide dogs.
The Vernon Lions Club is hosting their Ducks for Dogs race fundraiser on Saturday, June 27.
This community fundraiser supports the sponsorship of a service dog through B.C. and Alberta Guide Dogs for a local child with autism.
Every duck purchased helps support a family in the community.
“For many children, a service dog can mean better sleep, greater confidence, more independence, and a stronger sense of safety in everyday life,” said Brian Barnett, president of the Vernon Lions Club. “It costs about $35,000 to raise and train a service dog, which puts it out of reach for many families who need one most. Your support helps make that possible.”
So far 2,300 ducks have been sold with the maximum allowable being 4,000, a number the Lions Club has hit in past years. Ticket sales end on Saturday, June 20. They can be purchased online or in person this Saturday at the Sunshine Festival and Butcher Boys.
The race will take place at 11 a.m. at Dutch’s Campground in Coldstream.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the owners of the first three ducks to cross the finish line. First place will receive $1,000, second will get $500 and third will take home $250. The owner of the last duck to cross the finish line will get $100. Even if you don’t have a duck in the race you can attend the event for free and enjoy games and exhibits.
There will also be a hot dog barbeque with the proceeds going towards the fundraiser.
