Bruce was quickly swept out to sea.
His owner immediately tried to swim out to save his dog, but he soon realised he was also being swept away.
Doing the right thing
Wisely, he turned back and urgently called the coastguard. It was the right decision to avoid putting himself in serious danger. The rescuers then contacted Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours, who were already out on the water, to report the incident.
The crew searched for the dog, but hours passed with no sign of him. Then, after two hours and about 2.5 miles from the coast, they finally spotted the kayak and rushed towards it.
A huge relief
At first, they couldn’t see anything inside the kayak, but then the little dog’s head suddenly popped up. The crew managed to lift him out and bring him aboard their boat. They dried him off, wrapped him in warm blankets, and gave him some water before starting the journey back to shore.
The entire rescue was filmed by the boat’s crew, and you can feel their relief and joy when the dog is finally on board. Bruce was safely reunited with his owner. A happy ending for everyone involved, and hopefully a good long rest for the brave little dog.
