Formula One drivers are set to trade their usual high-performance vehicles for an altogether more whimsical mode of transport this Sunday, as they embark on a unique parade lap at Silverstone in mini-cars constructed entirely from Lego bricks.
This unusual spectacle marks the latest in a series of creative collaborations between the Liberty Media-owned sporting organisation and the Danish toymaker, building on several high-profile events throughout 2025.
Previous activations included drivers navigating the Miami track in ten life-size, two-seater electric Lego cars last year.
Top finishers at last July’s British Grand Prix received bespoke Lego trophies, and in Las Vegas, a remarkable Lego 1950s Cadillac, made from over 418,000 bricks, transported the leading trio to the podium, famously driven by actor Terry Crews.
For the upcoming Silverstone parade, each custom-built car features over 28,000 bricks, capable of reaching speeds of up to 25 kph (16 mph) on standard go-kart wheels – a stark contrast to the blistering pace of the race itself.
These miniature vehicles proudly display the teams’ 2026 liveries and driver numbers, weighing approximately 280kg (617 lb), with 65kg attributed solely to the bricks.
The intricate creations are the result of over 6,400 hours of meticulous work by a dedicated team of 20 designers, engineers, and Lego builders at a factory in Kladno, Czech Republic, highlighting the significant effort involved.
Sunday’s British Grand Prix promises to be an important one, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both targeting victory on home soil in a bid to cut Kimi Antonelli’s lead in the drivers’ standings.
Antonelli is currently 40 points clear of Mercedes teammate Russell, although the Brit did eat into his lead last weekend by winning the Austrian Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, Hamilton is six points further back after recording his first win with Ferrari earlier this month in Barcelona.
There is then a 45-point gap to Oscar Piastri in the standings, with Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc a further point adrift.
Following the British Grand Prix, there will be further races in Belgium and Hungary later this month before the summer break, with racing then resuming in late August in the Netherlands.
