China-made Hyundai Ioniq V to start presales on August 21

The China-made Hyundai Ioniq V from the joint venture between the Korean automaker and BAIC will start presales in the Middle Kingdom on August 21, revealing the price. This China-focused fastback boasts a 66.8 kWh battery, a 168 kW electric motor, and 620 km of range.

The Hyundai Ioniq V was first revealed at the Beijing Auto Show 2026. It is an electric fastback developed by the Beijing Hyundai JV specifically for China. This model currently has no intentions to enter foreign markets.

According to Beijing Hyundai, the Ioniq V will begin presales on August 21 at the Chengdu Auto Show 2026. It is a top-tier Chinese exhibition alongside auto shows in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. It offers an exhibition area of 220,000 square meters. This year’s expo will feature over 1,600 models from 120 brands.

Back to the Hyundai Ioniq V, it is a long-anticipated model with unusual styling and a bonnet forming a single line with the windshield. Its color palette comprises eight options: gold, purple, green, gray, white, silver, and black. The dimensions are 4900/1890/1470 mm and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. The car’s interior adopts a large 27-inch dual-screen setup and a head-up display. Another highlight is a Momenta-developed assisted driving system. The curb weight lies between 1,707 kg and 1,808 kg.

The Ioniq V stands on the 800V high-voltage system. Its entry-level variant has a 53.5 kWh LFP pack from CATL that powers a 140 kW (188 hp) electric motor. The range lies between 520 and 540 km under CLTC conditions, depending on the equipment. There is also a long-range variant with a 66.8 kWh LFP battery manufactured by CATL. It is paired with a 168 kW (225 hp) electric motor. The car’s range reaches 620 – 650 km under CLTC conditions.

According to previous reports, the Ioniq V will also be available with an EREV powertrain in the future. Hyundai will try to win back China with this model, as the current sales performance of the Korean brand is underwhelming. According to China EV DataTracker, Hyundai delivered 6,610 units in July 2026, down 46.8% Year-Over-Year. It seems that the Ioniq V will try to compete with the Xpeng Mona M03 and the MG 07.
