Fraudsters attempt to sell jewelry out of white vehicles in Parksville

Beware of vendors attempting to sell jewelry from white vehicles.

On March 3, police received a report of a fraudster trying to sell jewelry from a white Dodge van around

Pioneer Crescent and Mills Street in Parksville. One day later, another fraudster was reported trying to sell jewelry from a white BMW in the 300- block of Island Highway East in Parksville.

During the week of March 2 to March 8, the Oceanside RCMP received 252 complaints. Some of the other incidents included:

On March 2, a vehicle was reported stolen in the 3500- block of Island Highway West in Qualicum Beach. The vehicle was recovered by Oceanside RCMP on March 3 with a number of items missing. One day later, a nighttime business break-and-enter was reported with a front window broken and jewelry display case damaged in the 100-block of Morison Avenue in Parksville.

Also March 3, a navy-blue Helly Hansen rain jacket, black colour steel toe boots, and a bottle of prescription medication were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 200-block of Island Highway West in Parksville.

A resident reported being scammed out of $1,200 by responding to a phone caller offering a computer upgrade if remote access was permitted thus accessing the victim’s bank accounts, on March 3.

The next day, a nighttime business break-and-enter was reported with damage to a storage compound and six propane tanks missing in the 600-block of Alberni Highway in Parksville.

Also March 4, a black suitcase containing clothing and papers were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 200-block of Island Highway West in Parksville; and a nighttime car prowler was reported with paint damage to doors in the 1400 block of Huntley Road in Parksville.

A watch was found was found in the 100-block of Second Avenue West in Qualicum Beach on March 4.

On March 7, four nighttime trespassers were reported at a construction site in the 300 block of Alberni Highway in Parksville. The same night, a business break-and-enter was reported with damage to a fence in the 600-block of Alberni Highway in Parksville.

A white 2005 Ford F-350 diesel pickup, B.C. plates XG2737, was reported stolen from a pullout at Inland Highway and Horne Lake Road in Qualicum Beach on March 8.
