Air traffic was temporarily restricted in the area around Kraków, Poland, after contact was lost with a small private plane. Due to the incident, some commercial flights had to be rerouted.
The restrictions were imposed for safety reasons while the relevant authorities investigated the situation involving the aircraft.
On the afternoon of August 24, the loss of contact between air traffic controllers and a private Cessna aircraft prompted the activation of safety measures and the deployment of military aircraft.
After the pilot stopped responding to air traffic controllers’ inquiries, the airspace over Kraków and the airport was closed. As a result, a number of commercial flights scheduled to land in Kraków were diverted to other airports.
A pair of Czech Gripen fighter jets took off to intercept the aircraft; escorted by them, the light aircraft landed safely in Krakow. The airport then resumed normal operations.

At the same time, Broniatowski is convinced that Poland cannot be ignored indefinitely. “We cannot be sidelined because of our geography,” he emphasized, referring to the country’s key role in logistics and support for Ukraine.
As a reminder, the U.S. will provide Poland with a $2 billion loan to purchase weapons: F-35 fighter jets, Patriot air defense missile systems, and Abrams tanks.
Earlier, Poland signed an agreement with the U.S. for the delivery of 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters, along with a logistics and training package, for a total of $10 billion.
