CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A Charlotte-Douglas airport contractor was accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry from a traveler’s suitcase last month — then trying to sell the pieces on Facebook Marketplace, police said.
Court documents said a woman reported that multiple pieces of diamond-encrusted David Yurman jewelry were stolen from her suitcase during a layover April 11 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The jewelry was valued at about $5,000, documents said.
Police identified the suspect as Alonys Reyes-Garcia and arrested him April 14 on charges including felony larceny and possession of stolen goods. Records show he posted bond the next day. Read below for a full breakdown of the arrest and list of charges.

In the days after the initial report, detectives said they found a social media account, “Alonys Garcia,” listing every piece of jewelry the woman reported stolen and selling it as a bundled item.
The man behind the account was identified as 22-year-old Alonys Reyes-Garcia, who investigators said worked at the airport for a contracting company with access to travelers’ luggage.
Police said they traced Reyes-Garcia’s home address through his employer, then tried to buy the jewelry from him. Detectives said Reyes-Garcia provided that same address for them to come purchase the items.
After surveilling the home, police tailed Reyes-Garcia’s car, then pulled him over during a traffic stop and arrested him, according to court documents.

With search warrants for his car and apartment, police said they found a concealed pistol in the car and recovered the David Yurman jewelry at his home.
What’s next? Charges, $10k bond posted
During an interview, Reyes-Garcia claimed he found the jewelry in the secure baggage area, police . Court documents note he asked for an attorney after detectives questioned what surveillance video would show inside that secure area.
Reyes-Garcia now faces several charges, including:
- Possession of stolen goods
- Felony larceny
- Misdemeanor concealed carry
It was not immediately clear from court documents whether investigators have video showing Reyes-Garcia taking the jewelry.
Court records show Reyes-Garcia was held at the Mecklenburg County jail, where bond was set at $10,000. He appeared in court April 15 after posting bond.
