The best electric car on sale in the UK has been named. Auto Express has named the Skoda Elroq, priced from £32,000, as the top of the EV market.
In a review, it was praised for its spacious interior, value for money, and comfortable yet highly functional cabin. Journalists Steve Walker and Ryan Birch said: “Skoda doesn’t tend to miss the mark when it launches new cars, and the Skoda Elroq, a small electric SUV, is no different.
“In fact, the marque has done such a good job with the Elroq that we named it our Car of the Year at the 2025 New Car Awards.” The car ranked ahead of the BMW iX3.

Auto Express praised the BMW for its charging, ride, handling, performance and efficiency. However, the car was let down by having an “odd steering wheel” and a “limited range of powertrains”.
They concluded: “The ride might be slightly firm for some tastes, partly due to the standard 20” wheels, and the steering wheel design is certainly quirky, but otherwise the iX3 puts in a spotless performance.”
Third place went to the Renault 5, which the reviewers said was “great to drive in all conditions”, offered good value, and had “user-friendly” technology.
But they docked points because they said its ride was “slightly bouncy at lower speeds”.
Earlier this year, the Skoda Elroq and Enyaq electric SUVs received upgrades to their on-board tech, storage features and connectivity.
The Elroq and Enyaq are two popular SUVs in their sectors, offering comfortable driving experiences, efficient powertrains and lots of practical features.
For 2026, both models now boast a new and improved Android-based infotainment system, bringing a new look, redesigned home screen and grid layout to make it more intuitive to use.
The updated Skoda Elroq and Enyaq models will be available to order in June, with deliveries to commence later in the year.
