The Consumer Electronics Show is featuring tech that is moving out of doctors’ offices and into our homes.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (WHAT THE TECH?) — When we talk about tech to help us live longer, we’re talking about health gadgets that can catch illnesses and disease long before a doctor could.
“At Withings, we made the statement that, with our modern lifestyle, we change the way we live, so we eat on the go, we are under pressure, we sleep a lot less. So this leads to an increase in chronic disease development.”
That’s why Withings released the Body Scan 2 bathroom scale. The goal, they say, is to detect the early signs of chronic disease “before it’s too late.”
How does it work? It scans the veins in your feet and fingers. It can estimate the age of your heart and vascular system, along with body fat and muscle.
Withings stated it can flag early warning signs that may put you at a higher risk for conditions, like diabetes, long before symptoms might show up at a routine checkup.
The Y Brush looks like a bathroom from the future and promises to clean your teeth in just 20 seconds. However, its makers said it can also detect health signals worth discussing with a doctor.
“The breath from your nose is very close to the sensor. We can detect up to 300 conditions, like liver disorder, diabetes and gum diseases.”
Every year at CES the health space grows and is geared more to the individual. The makers of these products say they’re not trying to replace your doctor but to give them a picture of your health before you get to the office.
