- Silver jewelry is making a major comeback, emerging as a cool-toned alternative to gold.
- Stylists highlight its versatility—whether layered, mixed with other metals, or paired with seasonal themes and statement pieces, it always adds a chic, edgy element to any outfit.
Gold has always had its shining moment in fine jewelry, but as of late, silver is starting to make more of an appearance among the wardrobes of celebrities and off-duty models alike. A hint of silver can manifest itself in the form of a minimalist signet ring, pair of hoops, or full-on necklace stack, elevating any outfit it touches without overwhelming it. It’s become the cool-toned counterpart to trending metals of the past (ahem, rose gold) that’s taken over our accessories collection.
Whether layered with mixed metals or styled on its own, silver’s adaptability is what makes it such an underrated styling essential. While it can be worn with your everyday basics, celebrity stylist Mickey Freeman says silver jewelry has room for experimentation, too. “Silver jewelry has always immediately made my mind shift towards the elements of futurism that silver-toned accessories naturally bring to a look. I love to play up the dystopian vibe by layering silver jewelry on top of black or mineral-toned fabrics,” he says. The cool-toned metal adds an edgy element to any outfit, especially in oversized and organic shapes.

Big on Bangles

When you want to add extra flair to your outfit, editorial stylist Ana Tess says to bet big on sleek silver bangles. “Wear a lot of bangles and clean bracelets on your arms,” she says. Whether you’re wearing chunky pieces or a full stack, Tess suggests taking a minimalist approach with the rest of your jewelry—think dainty necklaces and simple studs.

Seasonal Details

Whether you want to subtly hint at the warm weather ahead or dive full-fledged into kitschy territory (hey, there’s no shame in it), your jewelry can live up to the challenge. “I pair a lot of silver jewelry with my summer outfits by choosing a theme, like seashells or something summer-inspired,” says Tess.

With an All-Black Outfit

Black and metallics always pair well, but there’s a certain je ne sais quoi about an all-black outfit adorned with shiny silver hardware and accents—and Tess certainly sees it, too. “Silver jewelry paired with a fully back outfit is forever classic,” she says. Wearing pieces with a bit of glimmer from diamonds wouldn’t hurt, either.
Sleek Silver Watches

If you’re just dipping your toes into silver jewelry, start with a dainty classic: a thin silver watch. This wrapped number gives the effect of a stack of bracelets.
Mixed Metals

Traditionally, silver went with silver and gold went with gold. But these days, anything goes. “The best way to mix metals in the context of jewelry is to make sure there’s a wide array of textures and layers. For example, pair the smoothness of a herringbone chain with another more textural piece of a different length,” Freeman says.

Mirror the Neckline

Ayo Edebiri shows us how it’s done, choosing a necklace that mirrors the neckline of her dress. While it may look simple, the extra bit hanging from the necklace adds just the right edge.
Hair Jewelry

Earrings and necklaces often take center stage, but don’t forget about hair jewelry. A few well-placed clips, whether in a ponytail or closer to the face, can be just as effective.

“One universal rule I tend to follow is never to over-accessorize the neck. Instead, use other pieces, such as chandelier earrings to help elongate a person’s neckline,” says Freeman. At Carolina Herrera’s fall/winter 2025 show, chandelier earrings pulled out the silver threads in a tweed jacket and skirt set.
