The 8849 Tank line of smartphones are rugged devices meant for outdoor use. But that doesn’t just mean they have thick, sturdy bodies that help protect against dust, water, and drops. They also tend to have massive batteries for multiple days of use and unusual features like built-in projectors so you can host a move night on your next camping trip.

Earlier this year the company introduced the 8849 Tank X, which was the first with a 220 lumen, 1080p DLP projector with laser autofocus. Earlier models were significantly less bright. Now the company is preparing to launch a new model called the 8849 Tank 5, which combines that projector with a faster processor and higher-res display, among other things.

Set to launch on June 10, the new Tank 5 smartphone has a 6.73 inch, 3200 x 1440 pixel, 120 Hz  AMOLED display with up to 3000 nits peak brightness. And it has a MediaTek Dimensity 9400e processor, up to 18GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB of UFS 4.0storage.

Like the Tank X, the new model also has a massive 17,600 mAh battery that should provide days of battery life (at least when you’re not using that power-hungry projector). And the phone supports 120W fast charging as well as 25W reverse charging, allowing you to use it like a power bank to top up your other devices.

The phone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, but unsurprisingly it’s a lot thicker and heavier than a typical phone, measuring 177.1 x 87. 33.8 (6.97″ x 3.43″ x 1.33″) and weighing 715 grams (1.58 pounds). While you could probably fit the 8849 Tank 5 in a pocket, don’t be surprised if it makes your pants sag.

Other features include a 50MP primary camera, 50MP night vision camera, and 32MP front-facing camera, support for DisplayPort 1.4 video output over the phone’s USB 3.1 Type-C port, as well as a DisplayPort input that allows you to use the projector with other devices.

There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD card reader with support for up to 2TB of removable storage, a fingerprint sensor on the side of the phone, and a camp light on the back that should shine brighter than the LED flash that most phones use for flashlight functionality.

Wireless capabilities include WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and eSIM support for 5G NR networks.

The 8849 Tank 5 ships with Android 16, but there’s no guarantee of future OS or security updates.

Pricing information should be available by June 10.
