OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – One of the glitziest events of Berkshire Hathaway’s shareholder weekend took place Friday.
The annual sales event exclusively for shareholders was held at Borsheims.
Every spring, Niveet Nagpal takes a flight down to Omaha to sell rings he designs to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders.
“I’ll pick between my babies, my children. I’ll pick a few of my favorites,” Nagpal said.
To him, it’s an honor.
“We’ve been coming here since about 2016. Yeah, it’s almost 10, I guess our 10th year,” Nagpal said.
Nagpal’s passion is creating designs that showcase his stones.
“First the stone speaks to me. And sometimes I know right away what I want to do. And sometimes it’ll sit on my desk for like months and months and years. And all of a sudden I’ll get this inspiration. And I’m like, oh, I want to make that happen,” Nagpal said.
When the piece is finally complete, Nagpal said it’s like Christmas.
“So it’s like Christmas almost every week in my office when a new piece gets finished to see if what was in my mind. That dream I had about what I want to do with that stone,” Nagpal said.
He brought in extra inventory for this week.
The whole store is stocked, expecting 10,000 people Friday alone.
“We have an incredible collection, probably bigger than any collection in any jewelry store in the world right now. And it takes a lot to put this collection together and to have it here and ready to view by all of our shareholders,” said Karen Goracke, Borsheims CEO.
Shareholders like Omaha native John Thomas attended the event.
“I went to the Borsheims 50 years ago when it was on Farnham Street, 24th Street. That’s where we bought our first piece of jewelry,” Thomas said.
He said his wife is there for the shopping. He’s there for the atmosphere.
“I’m just so happy and glad to see all these people in Omaha wearing their lanyards, wearing their sports coats. Thousands and thousands of people flying into Omaha for this event. It’s unparalleled in this country,” Thomas said.
That influx is creating the opportunity Nagpal is there for.
“It’s really cool to see all the different people and meet all the different people and share with them what we do,” Nagpal said.
Every spring, all his babies are in one place for the world to see.
Borsheims’ shareholders-only event is over, but they do have extended hours this weekend. On Saturday, they’re open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They have another shareholder-only shopping event Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
