What is a beauty and skin care advent calendar?
A beauty advent calendar is a take on the standard advent calendar but instead of religious pictures, or chocolate, you get beauty products behind each door. You can buy standalone makeup or skincare calendars or you can buy calendars from retailers that contain a mix of beauty products. For instance, Revolution sells a makeup advent calendar, Dr Barbara Sturm’s calendar only contains skincare, while Cult Beauty’s advent calendar sells a mixture of makeup, skincare, hair care, and accessories.
When do beauty and skin care advent calendars come out?
The first beauty advent calendars come out in August and September and the releases start ramping up from October. Body Shop and Lush advent calendars are usually the first, followed by Liberty and Charlotte Tilbury. If you’re interested in a particular advent calendar, it’s worth signing up for its waitlist.
Are beauty advent skin care calendars worth it?
Beauty advent calendars can be worth it if you like trying out a variety of beauty products and brands. They’re a fun and exciting way to count down to the holiday season while uncovering new favourite products. Many skin care advent calendars are also worth a lot more than they cost. In the case of the Cult Beauty and Liberty calendars, as two examples, the calendars represent savings of £800-£900. What’s more, you can get cheap advent calendars for less than £50 so, in our opinion, beauty advent calendars are worth it!
Why do we call it Advent?
We call it “Advent” because, in Latin, “adventus” means “coming” or “arrival” and it’s linked with the arrival of Jesus Christ on 25 December. The official Advent tradition, practised by Christians, starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and lasts around four weeks. During this time, candles are placed on an Advent wreath which represent hope, peace, joy, and love. Each candle is lit in order each week in the run-up to Christmas Day.
On what date does advent start 2026?
1st December for a 24- or 25-day calendar, or 13 December for a 12-day calendar.
When does advent start 2026?
Knowing when to start an advent calendar depends on the type of advent calendar you’ve bought. All 24-day and 25-day advent calendars start on 1 December and you open a door every day until either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. If you have a 12-day advent calendar, you should look to start it on 13 December if you want to open the final day on Christmas Day.
Do beauty advent calenders go from 1 to 25 or 25 to 1?
Advent calendars go from 1 to 25, not 25 to 1. The number of the door corresponds with the date – so you’ll open door 1 on the 1 December, door 2 on the 2nd December, and so on until Christmas Day. You can, of course, open advent calendars in any order you want – you can even open every door on the day it arrives if you prefer! – but the correct order is from 1 to 25. This is because door 25 is typically reserved for the best item in the advent calendar, which is usually a full-sized product.
What number do you start with on a 12-day advent calendar?
If you have a 12-day calendar, you start it on 13 December if you want to open the final door on Christmas Day. Although you can technically start it whenever you want. Like with 25-door calendars, you start with door 1 and open door 2, door 3 and so on until you reach door.
How to know which beauty advent calendar is best
Knowing which skin care advent calendar to spend your money on can be difficult because of the huge amount of choice. Here’s what you need to consider:
- Budget: How much you can feasibly spend on a beauty advent calendar will obviously play a huge role but you don’t have to spend a fortune. Every year, a great range of cheap beauty & skin care advent calendars go on sale that cost less than £50. Our favourites include Revolution’s makeup calendar and the smaller Boots No7 advent calendar.
- Value for money: How much a calendar is worth goes hand-in-hand with your budget, but it can often be better to spend a little more to get better value for money. For example, the Liberty advent calendar costs ~£250 but it usually is worth ~£1,000 and many of the products are full-sized. This makes it an expensive calendar, but fantastic value for money.
- Type: Are you running low on makeup? Do you want to try new skincare, or is there a brand you particularly love? This will help you determine which beauty advent calendar to buy. In our opinion, the best beauty advent calendars are those from retailers such as Cult Beauty, Lookfantastic and Liberty. This is because they offer a huge range of brands and product types. Our favourite single-brand calendars are then P.Louise, and MAC.
- Sustainability: An increasing number of brands are offering more sustainable packaging with their advent calendars, while others are also donating money to charity and planting trees alongside their calendar releases. The best one for this is Cult Beauty, as well as The Body Shop.
What is a good teen advent calendar 2026 in the UK?
The majority of beauty & skin care advent calendars will suit teenagers – depending on your/their budget of course – but there are a number that are better suited to younger people and younger skin. Our pick of 2025 teen beauty advent calendars is here.
What are the best advent calendars for adults?
Technically, any advent calendar can be an adult advent calendar because – as adults – we can choose which type of calendar we want! We’re guessing the distinction comes from the fact many advent calendars contain chocolate or toys and they’re seen as quite a child-like purchase.
However, if we take the term “adult” in the context of adult content, then we’re talking about calendars from the likes of Ann Summers and Lovehoney. These all contain toys and bedroom accessories to make the run-up to Christmas a little hotter…

Will there be a Beauty of Joseon Advent Calendar 2026?
If you’ve been searching for a Beauty of Joseon Advent Calendar, you’re not alone, the brand has seen a huge surge in interest thanks to its viral Dynasty Cream, sunscreen, and glow-boosting serums. Unfortunately, Beauty of Joseon hasn’t released its own advent calendar for 2025, and there’s been no sign of one coming later in the year either.
That said, the brand does appear in several K-beauty advent calendars, including those from YesStyle and other Korean beauty retailers. These often include mini or travel-size versions of Beauty of Joseon favourites alongside other top K-beauty names like COSRX, Innisfree, and Laneige.
If you’re looking to try the brand or expand your Korean skincare routine, those calendars are a great place to start – you’ll get variety, value, and a proper introduction to what makes Beauty of Joseon so beloved.

Will there be a Drunk Elephant advent calendar 2026?
Drunk Elephant was recently found to be the most searched-for beauty brand in the UK so it’s no surprise that fans are crying out for a Drunk Elephant Advent Calendar 2025.
The brand doesn’t typically release advent calendars. Instead, it focuses on Christmas gift sets and bundles.
It also partners with a number of retailers to make its products available in existing calendars. For instance, the Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream featured in the 2024 SpaceNK calendar, while the Beste No 9. Jelly Cleanser was in the Cult Beauty calendar.
With this in mind, it’s unlikely we’ll see a dedicated Drunk Elephant advent calendar in 2024 but if that changes, we’ll update this page.

Will there be a The Ordinary advent calendar 2026?
Like with the Drunk Elephant advent calendar, Deciem (the company that owns The Ordinary) doesn’t tend to release a The Ordinary advent calendar. Instead, a lot of its products feature in other calendars.

Will there be a Sol de Janeiro Advent Calendar 2026?
Just like with the The Ordinary Advent calendar, there is unlikely to be a Sol de Janeiro Advent Calendar 2025 because you often find Sol de Janeiro products inside other calendars.
Last year, we got the Bum Bum Cream and the Coco Cabana Cream in last year’s calendar offerings. However, we have started rounding up what we’re expecting from Sol de Janeiro’s festive offerings here.
