Casetify partners with Tamagotchi on a new retro accessories collection

by R.Donald

Tech accessory company Casetify has partnered with Bandai’s Tamagotchi to announce a new spring/summer capsule collection based on the digital toy’s aesthetics.

The collection features an array of smartphone cases and tech accessories designed and styled to match the vibrant color palette of the popular proto-digital companion.

Casetify extended the collection to travel gear, with two Tamagotchi Carry-on suitcases that come in pink or blue (an involuntary nod to a much more gender-binary era?) and can be fully customized with Tamagotchi inspired stickers, and by adding the customers’ initials using the classic chunky Bandai font.

Last but not least, Casetify and Bandai are also releasing an exclusive, co-branded Tamagotchi device and a series of collectible Tamagotchi Chase Cards that come in seven rarity levels, from Common to Supreme Ultra Rare.

The entire aesthetic of the operation, from the product to the marketing materials, to the models in the promotional pictures, is styled after the nineties look popular when Tamagotchis became a world sensation for the first time.

Aging millennials like yours truly can’t help but watch the entire endeavour with nostalgia and fascination for how such a mundane aesthetic is now all the rage again among Gen-Zers.

The new generations are frantically searching for meaning and genuine experiences in a globalized world where smartphones and social media have flattened, simplified and homogenized everything and every facet of their social existence. The answers to this urge vary from rediscovering crappy digital cameras from the early 00’s, to buying books promoted on TikTok by their peers. Casetify and Bandai are betting it can now also help market this unexpected revival of Tamagotchi.
