On most motorcycles, chain adjustment is straightforward.
BHPian MotoLeague recently shared this with other enthusiasts:
2099 km update
(funny how it ends up with 99 these days. Then again, its a Ducati, even the Odo finishes with flair, or maybe its their 99yrsof legacy showing up everywhere…hmm)
Another day, another quest.
Time to ride to the Ducati Service Centre, again.
The EvoTech set I had ordered (separately) had finally arrived, complete and without damage. Which, considering how parcels are usually handled, was a pleasant surprise.
In situations like this, there are two kinds of people.
- One, opens the box, watches a few videos, and gets into the DIY mode.
- The other simply hands it to the local mechanic and gets on with life.
I belong to neither of them.
With these parts, on this bike, I did not want to take chances. So, I booked an appointment at the service center and got the guard fitted there.
Also, if one reads the Owner’s Manual, except for riding the bike, for everything else you need to visit the Ducati Service Center, the booklet is filled with warnings and attentions.
Since I was already making the trip, I asked them to lube and tighten the chain as well.
On most motorcycles, chain adjustment is straightforward. But on the Hyper, things are a bit different because of the single-sided swingarm.
There are no separate adjusters on either side. The rear wheel sits in an eccentric hub, and chain tension is set by loosening and rotating that hub with the proper tool. (I hope I explained it right)
It is actually a neat setup. The technician checked the slack, rotated the hub in small steps, and brought the tension back into spec. No left-right alignment drama, no fiddling about, just a clean and precise adjustment.
Also just technical enough to remind me that leaving it to the professionals had been the smarter move.
That, I believe, is also part of Ducati ownership.
