Beauty boxes are all the rage right now, with numerous retailers such as M&S, Cult Beauty and LookFantastic all offering their own edits for the new season.
Now John Lewis has entered the race with its own offering. The high street firm recently launched its The Glow Beauty Edit for spring and it is packed with some major branded goodies – and three of them are full-sized.
The Mirror reports that the £45 haul features an assortment of nine deluxe and full-size icons, with a total value of £191. Included are full-sized favourite skincare products from the likes of Rodial, Lumene and Patchology.
The main standout product from the John Lewis beauty edit is the full-sized Votary Super Seed Nutrient Cream, which costs more than the box at £75 – essentially rendering all of the other products ‘free’. Designed to sooth sensitive skin, the moisturiser leaves a matte, smooth finish ready for applying makeup.
The popular cream currently has a 4.1 star rating on the SpaceNK website where it has received high praise from beauty buffs. The high price point was a concern for many, but with John Lewis’ beauty edit, that isn’t really a problem.
One review read: “Lovely cream, ideal for keeping your skin happy in cold, windy weather. Really soothed my dry skin and helped with any redness. Quite a rich cream which needed to be massaged in – best not to use too much. My skin felt nourished and hydrated, but I feel the price is too high.”
Another positive review read: “Really impressed with this cream! Thick consistency and scent-free, but applies quite easily and really does leave skin feeling silky smooth with a matte finish. Normally with other nourishing creams, skin can look glowy- which depending on your skin type can look borderline greasy, this is not that. Additionally, running your hands over your face several hours later, skin feels like silk. Really nice for the colder months as a day cream.”

However, it’s not the only luxurious product you will find inside John Lewis’ The Glow Beauty Edit, as it also contains the bestselling L’OCCITANE Almond Shower Oil (75ml). Delicately scented with almond oil, this oil transforms into a milky foam that cleanses without stripping the skin.
Meanwhile, the Lumene Nordic-C Valo Glow Boost Eye Serum (10ml), is perfect for anyone who is looking to visibly diminsh the look of dark circles underneath the eyes. Also included is the cult-classic Rituals The Ritual of Sakura Renewing Body Scrub (125g).
Beauty deal of the week
Walking out of the house with a fresh hair style is a great feeling, but some people can’t achieve this look themselves.
Whether it’s inexperience or plain laziness, many beauty fans find it hard to get perfect blow out or curly do at home, usually relying on a trip to the salon to do the job. But these days, there are many hair tools on the market that promise to make styling easier, but can cost a pretty penny.
One such gadget that has made waves among the hair world this year is the Shark FlexStyle 4-in-1 Air Styler & Hair Dryer For Straight & Wavy Hair – a hair dryer, curling iron and styling brush all in one. While it’s not cheap, costing £269.99, it has come to be known as a “dupe” of the Dyson Airwrap, which retails for £479.99.
It’s not easy for everyone to cough up cash on tools like this, so it’s important to know if they are actually worth the investment. Daily Record journalist Lucy Farrell set out to find out if the Shark FlexStyle is worth the hype and as someone who previously had no interest in styling, she is now “converted”.
She said: “Now that I’ve gotten a little bit older and mature, I’ve been wanting to put more effort into my locks even for every day affairs. However, I often find myself getting fed up with styling, be it a home blow dry or with using a standard curling wand.
“As such, the Shark Flextstyle instantly appealed to me and I knew I would have to give it a try. After a thorough testing, using all four of its styling functions and hair dryer, I can say with certainty that it’s worth its £270 price tag.”
