This Nugget Ice Maker at Amazon Is Writer Approved

There is precisely one benefit to having well water—not having a water bill. While that may seem like a pretty big advantage, the expense and inconvenience of having a well far outweigh that few-times-a-year cost.

Along with filters, softeners, and 40-pound water jugs for my personal cooler, I also have to purchase bagged ice multiple times a month. While my water is safe to consume, it simply tastes better from the cooler, and I only use the well water for bathing and cleaning. And trying to fill—and find room for—multiple ice cube trays is just not worth the hassle.

While I’ve contemplated purchasing an ice maker for years, I was concerned with my lack of counter space, and although inconvenient, buying bagged ice has become part of my routine. That is, until Euhomy offered to send me its compact nugget ice maker to test. It takes up just 9-by-11 inches of space, fitting perfectly on the side of my stove, and whips up chewable, great-tasting ice in minutes. Long story short: My days of buying bagged ice are officially behind me.

The 1.1-liter water tank holds enough to produce ice for hours without a refill. It creates enough ice for a small drink in around two minutes, and by 15 minutes, I had enough to fill an entire glass. According to the brand, it can produce up to 35 pounds of ice every 24 hours.

I’ve left the machine on for up to six hours while it was used by multiple people. Not only did I never have to refill the tank, but all of the ice remained frozen the entire time. The ice also melts slowly, even when placed in a drink, so it doesn’t seem to water them down quickly.

As mentioned, the ice is nugget style, similar to what you would find at restaurants or bars. It’s crystal clear, small, and easily crunchable. Plus, it simply looks fancier in a cocktail glass than bagged or cubed ice.

To use, just lift the lid, pour water (I use filtered water) in the tray, and press the button. Really—that’s it. One single button turns it on and off, or you can hold it down for five seconds to activate self-cleaning mode. A light turns on to tell you it’s full and can’t produce more ice until you use some, and when you need to add water.Plus, it’s nearly silent while running. The only sound I really notice is when the ice is dropping into the basket, but even that is hardly audible. I also love how sleek it looks, perfectly matching my stainless steel appliances.

The ice looks and tastes better than bagged ice, melts more slowly, and I am thrilled to no longer be hauling 20-pound bags to and from my car and freezer.
