Sedans

“The choice of the luxury categories is rarely about features or the engine anymore,” said Daniel André Langer, executive professor of luxury strategy at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School. “This is, nowadays, a given. It comes to emotional aspects that create a strong emotional response.” And this is certainly true for sedans, that allow for the luxury of space and usability. Here are Langer’s top sedan picks.

Porsche Taycan Turbo

Base price: $209,000

“What fascinates me about this car is how it manages to capture the essence of Porsche’s design language, while embracing electric technology,” Langer said. “The Taycan offers the sexy lines of the 911 in a modern, four-door interpretation.”

As an eco-friendly sedan, this Porsche leaves nothing to be desired.

“As someone who appreciates the instant torque of electric vehicles, I find the Taycan’s performance absolutely exhilarating,” he said. “It’s a car that proves electric vehicles can be just as exciting and driver-focused as their combustion engine counterparts.”

2025 Porsche Panamera

Base price: $102,800

“The Panamera is proof that a Porsche is still a Porsche even if it has four doors,” said Lauren Fix, founder of Car Coach Reports. “As the brand’s fastback sedan evolves into its third generation, it’s staying true to its sporty, yet luxury mission.”

She said the Panamera’s real draw is its rear and cargo space — a luxury feature of these types of vehicles — allowing it to serve as a high-end family sedan.

2024 BMW 3 Series

Base price: $44,500

“The BMW 3-series has been the benchmark for the sport-luxury sedan segment for decades — and for good reason,” Fix said. “The 3-series marries its smart, subtle and handsome exterior with a rich interior that boasts a 14.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, giving the cabin a decidedly modern look.”

An added bonus, she said this luxury sedan also offers three excellent powertrains.

2025 Genesis G90

Base price: $89,700

Genesis is a newer addition to the luxury sedan market, but it can already compete with establish brands.

“Meticulously crafted with the finest luxurious touches, the G90 stuns with a timeless design that exudes elegance from every angle,” Fix said. “The best value luxury car with all the technology and luxury you could want starting at $89,700.”

Semi-Convertibles

Fix said semi-convertibles offer many different luxury features that make them a pleasure to drive. The obvious feature being the luxury of driving with the top down. One semi-convertible sticks out above the rest — the Porsche 911 GTS Targa.

“When I drive my 911 to work, it provides me with a sense of joy and pleasure. I feel connected with nature and have my senses activated,” Langer said.

“I love the touch of the leather, enjoy the sound of the engine and marvel at the visual beauty of the materials,” he added. “The car becomes an extension of myself — even an inspiration.”

2025 Porsche 911 GTS Targa

Base price: $186,000

“This selection is deeply personal, as I currently drive a 911 convertible in what I consider the most beautiful color combination — GT silver metallic exterior with a red convertible roof and a Bordeaux red extended leather interior,” Langer said. “Every time I slide into the driver’s seat, whether I’m cruising along the ocean on Pacific Coast Highway to my classes at Pepperdine University’s beautiful Malibu campus or heading to a client meeting, I can’t help but smile.”

Not just for show, he said luxury semi-convertibles can easily be used as you wish.

“What I love about the 911 is not just its timeless design, but its incredible versatility,” he said. “It’s a sports car that’s equally at home as a daily driver or a weekend thrill machine.”

Coupes

Another type of vehicle Langer shared was luxury coupes, which offer a similar experience to driving his semi-convertible (Porsche 911 GTS Targa).

“[They are] more closed, so you feel more cocooned, which is further amplified by the compact cabin and the direct driving experience,” he said. “So, there is a sense of coziness, combined with the ability to enjoy the drive.” One prime coupe example Langer highlighted was the Rolls-Royce Spectre.

2025 Rolls-Royce Spectre

Base price: $423,000

“The Rolls-Royce Spectre has captured my attention for its ability to blend the brand’s timeless elegance with cutting-edge electric technology” Langer said. “What impresses me most is how Rolls-Royce has created a car that feels authentically ‘Rolls’ while pushing the boundaries of luxury electric vehicles.”

If you can afford it, this luxury coupe can be hard to beat.

“It’s elegant and sporty, yet incredibly sophisticated,” he said. “The Spectre has a beautiful presence on the road without being overly aggressive — a balance that’s hard to strike in the world of luxury cars.”
