The BMW M5 Touring is so close we can almost smell the leather interior, and it appears BMW isn’t done getting some final testing in at the Nürburgring thanks to a new video posted on YouTube by CarSpyMedia. The hybrid wagon can be seen blasting around the famous Green Hell with very little restraint, as you can see the tail repeatedly slide out and hear the glorious V8 roar as it rockets through the turns. With more than 700 horsepower on tap, it looks like wicked fun and shows enthusiasts have every right to be excited.

BMW

BMW is a German luxury car and motorbike manufacturer and current owner of Mini, Rolls-Royce, and Alpina. With roots dating back to 1913 as Rapp Motorenwerke, it officially became Bayerische Motoren Werke in 1922 as a manufacturer of aircraft engines. BMW’s first car was built in 1928 when it built the Austin 7 under license from Dixi, which was called the BMW 3/15. BMW grew into a manufacturer of premium and luxury automobiles, launching iconic nameplates like the 3 Series, 5 Series, and 7 Series, and is today known as one of the leading luxury automakers in the world, while the BMW M division is hailed as a leading manufacturer of performance cars.

The M5 sedan is set to debut in the next few weeks, but to keep the buzz going, BMW is planning on holding off revealing the Touring model in full until this fall. Since we’ve waited decades for the US debut of such a model, we can surely wait a few more months. Fortunately, we have all of these teasers to keep us occupied in the meantime.

M5 Touring Will Be A Monster

Whatever test driver is lucky enough to be behind the wheel of the M5 Touring in this video knows their good fortune, as they whip it around with wild abandon. While we still believe the Touring has some more moves locked away, some glowing red brakes and plenty of lost traction show it being driven pretty close to the limit.

Many will probably point out its gratuitous size and heft mean it won’t be the pointed track monster an M3 Competition is, and while you can see that in the video, it’s still obvious it can hold its own. Whether on the track or the highway, it’s going to be quite the car. As one of the pinnacles of BMW’s performance, we’re happy to know the company is ensuring its capable no matter where you drive.

Lots Of Capability

By now it’s well known the model is utilizing the 4.4-liter twin-turbo hybrid V8 setup out of the BMW XM. In M5 guise it’s believed power will be capped at 718 horsepower to not step on the XM Red Label’s toes. All-wheel drive will return, and there’s zero hope of a manual transmission. The good news is that you’ll have the benefit of instant electric torque and 43 miles of electric-only range to get you to and from work. The bad news is that the model will tip the scales in the mid 5,000 pound range.

BMW M5 Touring Colors Exposed

We’ll say we were hoping for a little more, you know, color with this selection.

Does this really matter that much in a model that will mainly be used on long stretches of highway or caught in rush hour traffic? No, it does not, but enthusiasts who will never own one will complain regardless. What matters is that we’re finally getting the M5 Touring that America has always dreamed about, so excuse us while we go watch this video 50 more times in anticipation.
