Peugeot E-5008 Dog Edition Debuts With Pet-Friendly EV Features

by R.Donald

Peugeot has introduced the E-5008 Dog Edition Concept, a one-off electric SUV designed around the needs of dog owners. Developed with the Stellantis Design Studio, the concept explores how future EVs could offer smarter, safer and more comfortable travel for four-legged passengers through dedicated accessories, connected technology and pet-focused interior design.

With summer travel season approaching, pets are becoming an increasingly important part of family holiday plans. According to an IFOP survey conducted for the 30 Millions d’Amis Foundation, 64% of dog owners plan to travel with their dogs, while more than six in ten say their pet influences their choice of holiday destination.

Responding to this growing trend, Peugeot has revealed the E-5008 Dog Edition Concept, a unique design study based on the five-seat version of its fully electric E-5008 SUV. While the vehicle is not intended for production, it serves as a showcase for innovative ideas that could shape future pet-friendly electric vehicles.

Designed Around a Dog’s Perspective

Rather than simply adding pet accessories to an existing SUV, Peugeot and the Stellantis Design Studio approached the project from a different angle: designing the vehicle from the dog’s point of view.

The development team considered how dogs experience a journey through sight, sound, comfort and movement. The result is a cabin featuring a calming color palette inspired by canine vision, combining soft blues with contrasting yellow accents, along with non-slip materials and carefully selected textures to create a more relaxing environment for pets.

The concept builds on the spacious five-seat Peugeot E-5008, whose large cargo area and versatile interior already make it well suited for families traveling with both children and dogs.

Practical Features for Dog Owners

The E-5008 Dog Edition Concept includes a wide range of accessories aimed at making road trips easier for both pets and owners.

A modular dog mattress can be used in the cargo area, across the rear seats or outside the vehicle, transforming into a portable dog bed during rest stops or at the destination. A padded window headrest allows dogs to comfortably rest while watching the scenery during longer journeys.

Other dedicated equipment includes:

– Protective interior mats
– Integrated feeding and water bowls
– A connected dog harness
– Storage bags for pets and owners
– A signature Peugeot dog toy
– A vehicle-to-load (V2L) powered dog dryer that stores beneath the boot floor

The concept also complements Peugeot’s existing range of pet accessories, including cargo barriers and boot protectors designed for everyday use.

Smart Software Adds Pet-Friendly Features

Beyond its physical accessories, the Dog Edition Concept introduces several software functions designed specifically for dog owners.

The navigation system can prioritize charging stations located near parks, walking trails and green spaces, allowing pets to stretch their legs while the vehicle recharges.

Another highlight is Dog Guardian Mode, which monitors the cabin temperature whenever a dog remains inside the vehicle for a short period. The system can maintain a comfortable interior climate, enable remote monitoring and alert the owner if conditions require attention.

The concept also features Dog Retriever, an experimental function that emits a dedicated sound designed to help call a lost dog back to the vehicle and simplify re-entry.

Same Electric Powertrain as the Standard E-5008

Although the Dog Edition introduces numerous comfort and technology upgrades, the electric drivetrain remains unchanged.

The concept uses the same battery, charging capabilities and electric powertrain as the production Peugeot E-5008. Peugeot has not announced any mechanical modifications, emphasizing that the project focuses entirely on improving the travel experience for pet owners.

The inclusion of the V2L-powered pet dryer also demonstrates another practical application of vehicle-to-load technology beyond powering camping equipment or household appliances.

A Design Study Rather Than a Production Model

Peugeot has confirmed that the E-5008 Dog Edition Concept is strictly a one-off concept vehicle and is not scheduled for production.

Instead, it serves as a design laboratory exploring how electric vehicles could evolve to better accommodate modern family lifestyles, where pets increasingly play an important role in daily transportation and holiday travel.

As more families choose to bring their dogs on road trips, concepts like the E-5008 Dog Edition highlight how future EVs may integrate dedicated pet-focused features directly into vehicle design rather than relying solely on aftermarket accessories.

While there is no indication that features such as Dog Guardian Mode or the V2L-powered pet dryer will reach production models, the concept demonstrates how connected technology, spacious electric SUVs and creative design could redefine pet-friendly mobility in the years ahead.
