Luxembourg is, for better or worse, widely known as a car-centric nation. Besides the highest density of cars, 698 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, Luxembourg also boasts the most up-to-date car fleet and, notably, the highest concentration of luxury vehicles per capita.

As of the end of February 2024, there were 454,639 cars on Luxembourg’s roads, a significant proportion of which belong to the premium category.

Leading the pack are German automotive giants Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, in that order. More than one car in ten is a BMW, with 48,184 registered in Luxembourg. The prevalence of Mercedes models (40,533) dwarfs that of Peugeots (21,532), with nearly double the number of the latter.

More Porsches than Citroëns registered in 2023

Porsches (10,014) significantly outnumber Dacias (6,124). In 2023 alone, 1,136 Porsches were registered, significantly surpassing the 985 Citroëns registered during the same period.

A study released in 2021 revealed that Luxembourg boasts one luxury car for every 13 inhabitants, a remarkable statistic placing it ahead of countries like Belgium (31) and Germany (32). By contrast, France lags far behind in the global rankings, with an average of one luxury car for every 110 inhabitants.

Truly exclusive brands are also not a rarity in the Grand Duchy. These include 3,067 Jaguars, 943 Ferraris, 650 Maseratis, 456 Aston Martins, 414 Bentleys, 269 Lamborghinis, 104 Rolls Royces, and even 29 Bugattis.
