From transparent OLED TV to bio-engineered air purifiering houseplants, the CES this year featured innovative tech
The CES 2024 took place this week in Las Vegas bringing together new technology from big companies to small startups in one place. The three-day convention introduced some interesting and unique gadget innovations that had many visitors marvelling at the invention.
Here are some of the best tech inventions that stole the attention at the CES this year:
Home health-monitoring tech
There were quite a few startups that launched their new gadgets at the convention including, Serenity, which showed off its fall-detection system with advanced radar technology and AI to track up to two individuals within a 40-foot range, even through walls. The gadget offers detailed reports on tracked individual activities as well.
Vivoo, another startup, introduced the public to a wide range of at-home tests including urinary tract infection detection tests (UTIs). The test utilizes your phone’s camera to record and analyze the color readout of the test strips and gives advice and context for the readings in its free app.
BeamO introduced its four-in-one thermometer, electrocardiogram, oximeter and stethoscope made by Withings. Designed like a game stick, the “portable and smaller than a smartphone,” gadget combines the simplicity of taking your temperature at home with other wellness metric detectors.
Samsung’s range of innovative gadgets
Besides previewing its home robot, Ballie, which can navigate rooms and obstacles, the company also introduced transparent MICRO LED, along with non-reflective screens, and gaming monitor that can switch player vision, in accordance to eye and head movement while playing games in 3D mode.
Samsung’s 4-Door Flex Refrigerator was another show-stealer of the event, which can detect up to 33 foods from your fridge using AI, and suggest recipes accordingly.
LG’s transparent TV and camping trailer
The company proudly touts the world’s first wireless transparent OLED TV, combining a 4K OLED screen with LG’s wireless video and audio transmission technology. The beautiful screen not only boasts high-resolution visuals and colour but has the added perk of being transparent. Once the contrast filter is lifted, the visuals will blend into the background seamlessly.
The Bon Voyage concept trailer includes a bed and bathroom, along with an outdoor fridge, a karaoke machine, an external TV, a table with an integrated induction cooktop and a clothing sanitiser.
Bio-engineered houseplants as air purifiers
French company Neoplants, have engineered unique house plants that can work as air purifiers at home. According to the company, the plants can replace 20 “regular” houseplants, as measured by how many pollutants the plants can remove from the air.
Nvidia’s AI desktop graphic cards
Nvidia dove into AI and finally unveiled its GeForce RTX and GeForce RTX 40 Super series. Primarily set for gaming desktop graphic cards, the company has promised 14 titles will get the RTX upgrade treatment, including Horizon Forbidden West, Pax Dei, and Diablo IV.
BMind’s smart mirror whispers affirmations
This AI smart mirror has been integrated with a personal assistant that aims to help its users achieve better mental health by speaking about gratitude meditation and tips on how to be your best self on a bad day.
