In Jackson, MI, the Jackson County Animal Shelter, located at 3770 Spring Arbor Road, is making headlines with its heartwarming appeal for community members to adopt pets in need of loving homes. Among the animals looking for families are Rex, a 2-year-old American Staffordshire mix, and Wednesday, a 12-year-old long-haired calico cat, each with their own unique stories and personalities.

Heartfelt Pleas for Adoption

Rex, with his tan and white coat complemented by striking blue eyes, was surrendered by his previous owner. Described as a muscular and fit companion, Rex is ready to be the perfect walking buddy. His eagerness to please and high treat motivation suggest he would quickly learn basic commands and leash manners. Wednesday, on the other hand, found her way to the shelter as a stray. After overcoming a flea issue, her beautiful coat is growing back, and this friendly feline is ready to spend her golden years with a new family.

Adoption Process and Fees

The shelter emphasizes a thorough adoption process to ensure pets find suitable homes. Prospective dog owners must complete an application and participate in a mandatory meet-and-greet session. For cat adoptions, a walk-through of the cat room is available to gauge reactions. Adoption fees are set at $150 for medium and large dogs and $250 for puppies and small dogs, covering vaccinations, microchipping, and sterilization. Cat adoption fees are $60 for one cat and $80 for two, including necessary tests, vaccinations, and spay/neutering procedures.

Visiting and Contact Information

While visiting the shelter in person is encouraged, other resources for adoption include online applications, faxing to 517-780-4750, or emailing the shelter. The shelter operates from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, extends its hours until 7 p.m. on Thursday, and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

As the Jackson County Animal Shelter continues its mission to find forever homes for its residents, Rex and Wednesday represent just two of the many pets awaiting adoption. Their stories highlight the shelter’s broader effort to connect animals with caring individuals and families, ensuring a brighter future for these deserving companions. By opening their hearts and homes, community members can make a significant difference in the lives of pets like Rex and Wednesday.
