Authorities in the Phillipines opened an investigation after guests at a resort bathroom in Salvador Benedicto, within the Northern Negros Natural Park, found a snake emerging from a toilet, according to The Sun. The guest who discovered the reptile initially used a long stick to prod the coiled snake to determine if it was real and alive. Video recorded at the scene shows the snake submerged in the water before gradually lifting its head to the rim, twitching, and flicking its forked tongue. Clips of the encounter spread rapidly online.
The clip of the encounter was recorded on April 29 by Dranreb Teodoso at a hotel in Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental. Shouts can be heard as one person reaches out with a stick to check the bowl. Footage shows the reptile moving in the water before rising to the rim of the toilet and closely watching its surroundings, as reported by Bild. After the confrontation in the bathroom, the guests alerted the hotel, and staff arranged for the snake to be removed.

Teodoso initially believed he found a harmless water snake, but once the images were shared with reptile enthusiasts, he was told it appeared to be a king cobra; the snake was described as roughly 1.2 meters long and tangled in the plumbing.
Local officials said sightings of king cobras are not new in this part of Negros Occidental, even though the species’ natural habitat is forests and farmlands. They suggested the reptile may have sought a cool hiding place or entered built-up facilities in search of food or shelter. Authorities reiterated safety advice: do not approach or provoke snakes and report any sightings to the proper channels so trained personnel can respond.
