Airbus is well known for its passenger jets, ranging from the A380 to the A220. These aircraft are available for anyone who has the means to buy. Whether you are Emirates looking to invest in your medium-haul fleet, Ryanair thinking to change teams, or a wealthy individual looking for a unique ride to your holiday destinations worldwide.

Today, we will look at the latter, focussing on Airbus Corporate Jets, the executive aircraft division of the European Consortium. We will look at four aircraft from the ACJ220, their latest addition to the product line. We will also look at the ACJ320, ACJ350 and the never-produced ACJ380.

1 ACJ220

The Canadian private jet

In October 2020, the ACJ220 program, an Xtra Large Bizjet, was officially launched. The ACJ TwoTwenty is a new airplane built by Airbus. It is based on the A220-100.

According to Airbus, the cabin offers two times better connectivity than its competitors, including a WiFi system throughout the cabin. It introduces the latest innovations, such as electro-chromatic windows and LED lighting. The ACJ TwoTwenty can fly up to 5,650 NM/10,500 km (over 12 flight hours), directly connecting city pairs like London and Los Angeles, Moscow, Jakarta, Tokyo, and Dubai, as well as Beijing and Melbourne, benefiting the entire A220 program.

For now, Airbus and Comlux signed an exclusive deal to outfit the first 15 ACJ220s. The charter company even operates an airframe equipped with the help of luxury hotel brand FIVE, which is appropriately registered as 9H-FIVE.

Simple Flying contacted Comlux for further information, but they have yet to respond.

2 ACJ320

The flagship.

The ACJ320 has a range of 4,300 nautical miles or 7,800 kilometers. The A320 Prestige is another version of the same aircraft with more interior space, designed for passengers requiring extra comfort. It can accommodate up to 30 passengers and has two removable fuel tanks. As of 2018, the unit cost of this aircraft was $115 million.

This is undoubtedly the most popular ACJ aircraft worldwide. At the same time, we were not able to find data pinpointing to the exact number of ACJ320s in operation today; a quick plane spotting trip to major private aviation hubs like Le Bourget or Farnborough will undoubtedly lead to observing a few either on the apron or arriving/ departing. The Prestige variant offers more interior space than the standard model, with a 30 passenger capacity and two removable fuel tanks. Its unit cost is $115M

Within the A320 family, the Neos remain in production today. Historically, the A318, A319, A320, and A321 were all available for VVIP conversion.

According to Aeroaffaires, a French private aviation broker, chartering out an ACJ320 on a transatlantic flight would have a starting price of around €450,000 ($485,000).

According to Global Jet, the Airbus ACJ320 is the only private jet capable of accommodating a commercial flight with up to 31 passengers, setting a new standard in the aviation industry.

3 ACJ350

XtraWideBodied executive airliner

According to Airbus, the official name of the aircraft is the ACJ350 XWB. The -900 version of the aircraft has 270 m²/2,910 ft² of cabin space, while the ultra-long-range variant can fly up to 25 passengers for 10,800 nm/20,000 km or 22 hours.

Widebody aircraft like the ACJ350 offer the equivalent of several houses of floor space, which makes it challenging to create cabins that meet demanding certification rules, especially when they are installed within a fuselage made of new materials, such as carbon fibre.

As the aircraft is solely used by government operators, and has yet to be bought by charter companies, it is not possible to have an exact figure on how much it woud cost to charter out.

4 ACJ380

From the outside, this gigantic superjumbo would have looked like any other A380s flying today, but inside it could only be described as a ‘flying palace’ by the manufacturer. We covered the aircraft in more detail in a previous article, but here are some cool features it would have had.

Starting from outside the aircraft, you will enter the plane through a suspended lift located under the main wheels. This lift, which has glass walls, allows access to all three levels of the aircraft. A spiral staircase wraps around it, and it is lined with beautiful artwork. The glass lift well retracts once the VIP passengers are comfortable onboard.

On the first level of the plane, which is typically the cargo hold on a commercial aircraft, there are two main sections. The first section is a garage that can transport one or two luxury cars. After all, you wouldn’t want to fly halfway around the world and then travel in someone else’s non-diamond studded car.

The second section of the bottom deck features a wellness room. This room is lined with carpet on the walls, and it has big sofas and a giant LED TV screen on the floor. The TV screen is linked to high-resolution cameras looking straight down to give you the feeling of flying over the landscape. Additionally, scented breeze is pumped into the room to complete the effect.

Bottom line

Airbus is known to sell a jet to anyone who can pay for one, from airlines to private individuals. This list shows four of their products, but there are many honorable mentions, like the A330neo, A340 and A330ceo. If your favorite ACJ was not on the list, it doesn’t mean it’s not good.
