The Embraer Praetor 600 is a long-range super-mid-sized business jet designed and developed by Brazilian Embraer. The aircraft was introduced during the National Business Aviation Associated (NBAA) convention in 2018. It received its type certification from the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil in April of the next year, followed by the FAA and EASA certification a month later. The first aircraft was delivered to a European customer in June 2019.
With a capacity of up to 12 passengers, the aircraft features some of the most technologically advanced avionics. Simple Flying has compiled a list of salient avionic features that make the aircraft a breeze to fly, as highlighted by Embraer.
1 Active Turbulence Reduction (ATR) system
Only jet in its class to feature the ATR system
Feature | Advantage |
Reduces turbulence-related forces | By up to 80% |
Reduces fuel burn | By up to 10% |
The Embraer Praetor 600 is the only jet in its class to feature the Active Turbulence Reduction system. Apart from passive turbulence management methods, the system reduces turbulent forces felt by passengers by up to 80%. During a bumpy ride, particularly around mountainous regions, the ATR capability results in a smoother and more comfortable ride for passengers.

Embraer claims that the cabin design and the air filtering technology further add to the passenger comfort onboard Praetor 600 aircraft. According to Embraer,
“From class-leading cabin comfort, including best-in-class cabin altitude and standard HEPA filters, to more destinations with best-in-class range and enviable performance in challenging airports, the Praetor 600 truly expands your journey and delivers the utmost value.”

Both boast highly similar features – but which one reigns supreme?
2 Fly-by-wire technology
First and only manufacturer to introduce it in this category
System | Flight Controls |
Conventional mechanical and hydro-mechanical controls | Pulleys, cranks, cables, hydraulic pipes |
Fly-by-wire controls | Electronic interface and signals |
The Brazilian manufacturer takes pride in being the first and only manufacturer to introduce full fly-by-wire technology in the super-mid-sized aircraft category. While the fly-by-wire technology is not new – it was first introduced commercially by Airbus on the A320 in 1987, Embraer implemented an entire fly-by-wire interface on the Praetor 600.

This system replaces conventional mechanical and hydro-mechanical control that uses pulleys, crankshafts, and cables with electronic impulses. According to Embraer,
“The Praetor 600’s full fly-by-wire with side-stick controls reduces pilot workload and provides a safer, smoother flight experience. Full fly-by-wire also enables access to more airports and means easier maintenance for less time in the hangar and more time in flight.”

According to the Vice President and General Manager of business and regional systems for Rockwell Collins, Christophe Blanc,
“The extension of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics systems onto Praetor 500 and 600 aircraft enabled exciting upgrades for not only Embraer’s newest executive jet offerings but also the existing Legacy 450 and 500 aircraft. These four aircraft will all be equipped with notable avionics upgrade options including vertical weather, predictive windshear, ADS-B In, synthetic vision guidance system, and inertial reference system capability.”
4 Smart weather technology
MultiScan Weather Radar
Weather detection range | Up to 320 NM |
Doppler turbulence detection range | Up to 50 NM |
The Embraer Praetor 600 features a MultiScan Weather Radar system, a technology that analyzes weather at distances during flight while providing near-term weather predictions to pilots. The system has threat detection capabilities that enable pilots to make efficient and effective decisions well in time.

The MultiScan Weather Radar has a detection range of up to 320 NM (592 km). The system can also detect Doppler turbulence with a range of up to 50 NM (93 km), allowing pilots to detect the oncoming weather. Rockwell Collins advertises the system by stating,
“You can’t control bad weather, but you can avoid it with the available fully automated MultiScan™ weather radar. MultiScan’s state-of-the-art predictive weather analysis and advanced threat detection capabilities give you a complete weather picture to mitigate the risk of inadvertently penetrating thunderstorms.”

The Embraer Praetor features synthetic vision technology that creates an intuitive visual environment for pilots. The technology enables greater situational awareness as pilots can visualize and identify distant environments before they appear. This visual environment provides distinct mile markers, runway highlights, lead-ins, and airport domes, making the flying experience and approach procedures smooth and safe.
