Summary
- Business jet demand soared, leading to a 67% increase in total deliveries for Embraer in Q1 2024.
- Private aviation sales experienced a significant boost, with 83% more light business jets delivered.
- American Airlines’ order of 90 E175s contributed to a $2.3 billion increase in commercial aircraft backlog for Embraer.
On Friday, April 19, Embraer announced its new backlog and successful deliveries that were accomplished in the first quarter of 2024. This includes deliveries and orders in Embraer’s executive aviation sector, the commercial aviation sector, and even its defense and special missions branch.
Overall, the company delivered 25 total jets in the first quarter of this year. This was a 67% increase compared to the 15 aircraft that were delivered in the first quarter of last year, and it is also the highest first-quarter delivery that Embraer has experienced in the last eight years.
Executive aviation focus
The main reason for such an increase in total deliveries throughout the first quarter was due to Embraer’s private aviation production. The Brazilian manufacturer delivered 18 business jets in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the eight total business jets in the first quarter of 2023. This showed a strong increase in demand in the light business jet market, as Embraer delivered 83% more light business jets. This includes one Phenom 100 and ten Phenom 300s, for a total of eleven light business jets.

Embraer Executive Jets Showdown: Praetor 500 Vs 600
The Praetor 600 is a longer range and higher capacity model.
However, the company still saw three times as many medium-sized business jets delivered when compared to the first quarter of last year. This includes three Praetor 500s and four Praetor 600s, for a total of seven medium-sized business jets.
Embraer’s private aviation branch continued making strong sales throughout the first quarter. The total private aircraft backlog was just over $4.6 billion, a $300 million increase from the fourth quarter of last year.
Other business segments
Commercial deliveries remained the same year-over-year when the company recorded seven total commercial aircraft. This was made up of four E195-E2 aircraft and three E175s.
However, the commercial business segment saw its greatest success in its increase in backlog. In the first quarter of this year, Embraer posted an $11.1 billion backlog. This was a $2.3 billion increase, or a 26% increase, from the fourth quarter of last year. The majority of this backlog came from a new first-quarter deal with American Airlines. The Dallas, Texas-based airline placed an order for 90 E175s. The aircraft order also included the purchase rights for another 43 aircraft. These future aircraft will assist American Airlines in meeting demand throughout the United States.
The only Embraer business segment that saw a decrease in backlog was the company’s Defense & Security segment. The company saw a 4% decrease in backlog, going from $2.5 billion in the fourth quarter of last year to $2.4 billion in the first quarter of this year. No defense aircraft has been delivered in 2024 so far.
However, Embraer saw its first C-390, which was delivered to the Hungarian Air Force, complete its maiden flight. This is one step further in the process as the aircraft looks to enter service. Embraer also saw its Services & Support business unit, which provides customer service and experience, remain level from the fourth quarter of last year.
