Embraer Phenom 300EV becomes first light business jet certified with Autoland

Embraer’s new Phenom 300EV has received certification from Brazil’s ANAC, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, clearing the aircraft for operation in key global markets. The new model has also become the first light business jet certified with Garmin Emergency Autoland.

The aircraft is the latest version of the successful Phenom 300 family, which, according to the manufacturer, has been the world’s best-selling light jet for 14 consecutive years. The Phenom 300EV was unveiled in July, with first customer deliveries expected in 2028.

Garmin Emergency Autoland is intended for situations in which the pilot becomes unable to control the aircraft. Once activated, the system can take control, select a suitable airport, communicate with air traffic control and passengers, and conduct a fully automated approach and landing. Embraer says the Phenom 300EV is currently the largest business jet certified with the system.

Introducing Emergency Autoland also required several changes to the aircraft itself. The Phenom 300EV is equipped with autobrake and an electronically controlled rudder, known as rudder-by-wire. To manage these functions, Embraer developed the Multi-Purpose Electronic Controller, or MEC, which is designed to improve handling, reduce pilot workload and simplify maintenance.

The cockpit is equipped with the Garmin G3000 Prodigy Touch flight deck, autothrottle, Emergency Descent Mode and the Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System, which warns the crew of a potential runway excursion. The aircraft also features synthetic vision, systems that improve situational awareness while taxiing and additional functions intended to provide greater navigational precision.

The Phenom 300EV can reach speeds of up to Mach 0.80, while its advertised range has been increased to 2,055 nautical miles, or 3,806 kilometres. This figure applies when carrying four passengers with NBAA IFR reserves. Embraer cites Aspen–New York, Dubai–Maldives and São Paulo–Manaus as examples of routes the aircraft could operate nonstop. Its payload capability has also been increased.

The improvements are not limited to performance and the flight deck. The Phenom 300EV will be available from the factory with Gogo Galileo internet connectivity, relying on a network of satellites in low Earth orbit. Starlink will also be available as a retrofit under a Supplemental Type Certificate.

The passenger cabin has received further refinements, while the maximum cabin altitude is limited to 6,600 feet. The aircraft retains its large windows and one of the largest baggage compartments in its category, while cabin amenities include a flexible refreshment centre and an odourless vacuum lavatory.

By securing simultaneous approval from ANAC, the FAA and EASA, Embraer has completed one of the key stages in the new model’s development. From 2028, the Phenom 300EV is expected to take over from the current versions of the Phenom 300 family and further strengthen Embraer’s position in the light business jet segment.
