At an early age, Carrey had found a unique ability to perform impressions, which translated into his unique slapstick comedic acts.
By the 1980s, Carrey began appearing on television shows and televised comedian acts. In 1983, he even moved to Hollywood, California, to begin performing at The Comedy Store, a famous comedy club. His fame continued to rise after his move, and he starred in The Duck Factory and even performed his impressionist act on The Tonight Show in late 1983.
Carrey continued taking acting roles throughout the 1980s. However, his big break is considered to be his acting role in Ace Venture: Pet Detective in 1994. This led to a string of roles in popular movies throughout the 1990s. These movies include:
- The Mask
- Dumb and Dumber
- Batman Forever
- The Cable Guy
- Liar Liar
- The Truman Show
By the early 2000s, Carrey had become a household name in the film industry. He was even inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2004. He continued starring in successful movies, such as Bruce Almight, Fun with Dick and Jane, and Horton Hears a Who, among others.

Over the years, Carrey has accumulated two Golden Globe Awards, several Golden Globe Award nominations, and a Grammy Award nomination. Even so, Carrey has accumulated a net worth that is nearing $200 million.
Because of Carrey’s wealth, it is no wonder he operates his own business jet. This private jet provides Carrey, his family, and his friends with the ultimate luxury and flexibility while traveling. Let’s take a closer look at this unique private jet, a Gulfstream V. Let’s also take a look at some of the features that have made the Gulfstream V such a popular business jet.
The Gulfstream V flown by Jim Carrey
Currently, Jim Carrey flies on a Gulfstream V. According to Celebrity Private Jet Tracker, this aircraft is registered as N162JC. Additionally, according to FlightAware, this aircraft was initially built by Gulfstream in 1998 and has a serial number of 539. Interestingly enough, the aircraft has a registered owner of Sloan Harry Evans Trustee, a company based in Woodland Hills, California. This company is a trust set up by Harry Evans Sloan, the former chairman of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), which is one of the world’s largest film and television production studios.

Carrey is considered to be the main operator of the aircraft, although he does not own the aircraft himself. Prior to Sloan Harry Evans Trustee taking control of the aircraft in September 2019, the aircraft was owned and used by several other operators. From 2009 through 2019, Trans-Exec Air Service, based in Van Nuys, California, operated the aircraft. And prior to 2009, the aircraft was owned by Carrey James Eugene Trustee, meaning it was owned by Jim Carrey himself.
This Gulfstream V is flown fairly frequently, even as it increases to over 25 years of age. The aircraft has a range of 6,500 nautical miles (7,500 miles), meaning it can easily cross the entirety of the United States. Because of this, the aircraft is used frequently for domestic flights. According to Celebrity Private Jet Tracker, some of the airports that this Gulfstream V has flown to include:
A brief history of the Gulfstream V
The Gulfstream V was one of Gulfstream’s most popular business jets. The aircraft was originally developed in the early 1990s. At this time, Bombardier, which is often considered to be Gulfstream’s biggest competitor in the private aviation industry, had introduced its Bombardier Global Express. This aircraft had the ability to fly around 6,500 nautical miles (7,500 miles), which meant it was the private jet with the furthest range at that time. It also created a new business jet class called the ultra-long-range business jet, which has grown to become increasingly popular over the last three decades.

5 Things You Might Not Know About The Gulfstream V
Did you know it was the first ultra-long-range business aircraft in the Gulfstream fleet?
After Bombardier introduced the Global Express, Gulfstream engineers began designing a new aircraft that could directly compete with this ultra-long-range business jet. This new aircraft kept a similar fuselage size to the previously introduced Gulfstream IV. However, Gulfstream lengthened the aircraft, added more powerful engines, and incorporated a redesigned supercritical wing.
The first Gulfstream V prototype conducted its maiden flight in November 1995. It achieved type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by early 1997, and it was officially introduced in June 1997.
Gulfstream produced nearly 200 total Gulfstream Vs until the upgraded Gulfstream G550 was introduced in early 2004. Over the years of its production, Gulfstream introduced several different variants of the aircraft. These variants include:
- The original Gulfstream V
- The C-37A, used as the US military designator for a Gulfstream V
- The C-20C, used for VIP transport as a backup to Air Force One
Unique operators of the Gulfstream V
Overall, many Gulfstream V aircraft were utilized by wealthy travelers, business executives, and celebrities. This includes both Steve Jobs and Mark Cuban, who both utilized the aircraft through the 2000s. Additionally, many fractional ownership companies and charter providers utilize a Gulfstream V for its long-range operations.

Beyond private jet providers, several militaries took control of a Gulfstream V. Many of these governments used the aircraft for VIP transport, but some aircraft were configured with electronic systems, surveillance systems, or other technology for advanced missions. Some of these militaries include:
- Algerian Air Force
- Hellenic Air Force
- Israeli Ministry of Defense
- Italian Air Force
- Singapore Air Force
- Japan Coast Guard
- State of Kuwait
The Gulfstream V is configured for several branches of the military within the US, including the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard. Furthermore, several departments within the US government utilize a Gulfstream V. These programs include:
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- Department of Justice (DOJ)
- Federal Emergency Management Agency
- National Center for Atmospheric Research
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center
Notable design features and performance specifications of the Gulfstream V
As previously mentioned, the initial inspiration for the design of the Gulfstream V came from the Gulfstream IV. However, Gulfstream increased the aircraft’s fuselage size, although it did not surpass the Bombardier Global Express, which allowed for up to 15 passengers. This large fuselage could be split into three different interior zones. Customers had the ability to customize these zones, including options like a 4-place club arrangement, a mid-cabin divan, a conference area, or a full-sized galley, among other options.

Additionally, the new cabin had several technological advancements. This includes a sink, power outlets, fold-out tables, satellite TV, and multiscreen entertainment systems. Gulfstream even utilized a LeBozec humidifier to regulate the air within the cabin. Overall, the Gulfstream V’s cabin has the following measurements:
- Cabin height: six feet one inch
- Cabin width: seven feet three inches
- Cabin length: 50 feet ten inches
Inside the cockpit, the aircraft can utilize the Gulfstream PlaneView flight deck. This avionics suite is based on the Honeywell
Primus Epic integrated flight deck. Some of the advanced features of this avionics system include enhanced weather radar, autopilot, and a heads-up display (HUD) system. The aircraft also uses the Enhanced Vision System (EVS), which is displayed on the HUD system.

Additionally, the Gulfstream V featured a brand-new wing design. This new wing is a supercritical wing that can hold a total of 41,300 pounds of fuel. This larger wing helped the aircraft reach its maximum range of 6,500 nautical miles (7,500 miles).
The Gulfstream V is powered by two BMW Rolls-Royce
BR710 turbofan engines. These each provide the aircraft with nearly 15,000 pounds of thrust. These efficient engines help the aircraft achieve the following performance specifications:
