She seemed to thank the pilot after her private jet’s dramatic emergency landing on Thursday, but what exactly happened in Karol G’s mid-air horror?

The 33-year-old Colombian singer’s Gulfstream touched down in Los Angeles late on Thursday after smoke filled the cockpit. The luxury airliner was cruising over Southern California when disaster struck, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News.

Footage showed the moment the Grammy Award-winning artist’s plane touched the tarmac, with emergency vehicles in tow. Here The Mirror takes a look at everything we know about the terrifying ordeal – including Karol’s sweet moment with her pilot.

Emergency exit

Per the ABC News reports, Karol G’s private plane landed at Van Nuys Airport after leaving Burbank Airport on Thursday evening with 16 people on board. A mid-flight emergency was reported 70 miles east of the airport, turning around over Cajun Pass.

The jet touched down at around 9pm, with an emergency services vehicle meeting them on the landing strip. Karol, real name Carolina Giraldo Navarro, was photographed looking extremely shaken as the passengers stepped off the plane.

It’s currently unclear if anyone suffered injuries during the mid-air scare, but the reason for the aircraft’s sudden landing was down to smoke being reported in the cockpit.

Emotional moments

News crews filmed Carolina stepping off the plane, covered in the artist’s logos – all of which are tattooed on her body. She appeared to hug her friends tight as they all appeared horrified at what happened late last night up high in the sky.

Another sweet moment saw Carolina approached her aircraft’s pilot, seemingly shaking his hand and thanking him for making the safe landing. Things could have easily gone wrong if it wasn’t for the speedy actions of the well-trained airplane operator.

What happened?

It’s not yet known what happened to Karol G’s private jet or why smoke began entering the cockpit, the songstress is also yet to address the ordeal on her social media, appearing silent on her Instagram story, with a grid post shared exactly one day ago.

Her last Instagram post showed her on stage as she performed in Mexico. The post was dedicated to those shows as she captioned that the country gave her “seven unforgettable nights”, sharing a professional photograph of her performance.

Not a lot is known about her aircraft, but in a previous upload Carolina appears to be sat in the lavish plane, posing up a storm on social media. Other uploads show the singer stood proudly in front of the decorated plane for her birthday.

Who is Karol G?

Karol recently won a Grammy Award for Best Música Urbana Album for her album Mañana Será Bonito. She’s currently on tour in Latin America. She is set to play Explanada Cardales de Cayalá in Guatemala City, Guatemala on Friday, which could be where they plane was headed. It’s unknown if the concert will continue.

The Latin American leg of her Mañana Será Bonito Tour continues into May. Then her European Leg picks up in Switzerland on June 8. Karol G is set to play The O2 in London on June 18 and 19. When she won her Grammy Award recently, it was the first time she was nominated. She was given the award by Christina Aguilera and fellow Colombian singer Maluma.

Outside of singing, Karol – legal name Carolina Giraldo Navarro – recently made her acting debut. She had a recurring role in the Netflix limited series, Griselda, starring Sofia Vergara. In the series, Karol played Carla, a sex worker from Medellín, Colombia who helped Griselda Blanco smuggle drugs into the United States.
