The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been seen boarding a private jet during their travels to Canada, despite stating their commitment to environment and sustainability on their new website
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have enjoyed a luxury private jet ride whilst in Canada, in stark contrast to their claims to be sustainable and promoting ‘green’ practices.
The couple are currently in Canada for the Invictus Games as they celebrate one year to go until the 2025 Invictus Games. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took a two-hour trip from Santa Barbara to Vancouver in a private jet before setting off just 39 minutes later to Victoria on Vancouver Island – a 15 minute trip.
And users online were quick to point out their dismay at the actions. One X user wrote: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s private jet flight contradicts their climate advocacy, emitting 4 tonnes of CO2.”

Another added: “Harry and Meghan call themselves Environmental Campaigners, yet they take a 3 hour private jet to Canada?” while a third said: “It’s disappointing to see Prince Harry and Meghan taking a private jet despite advocating for climate change.”
On their newly-launched website, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reveal their environmental credentials with Prince Harry described as “a humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate, and environmental campaigner”. Whilst committed to the environment, Harry’s recent 25-hour trip to the Uk and his private jet use in Canada appear to defy his commitment to reducing travel impact on the planet.
Aside from their new claims about being green and an environmental campaigner, Prince Harry has also been one of the pioneers behind Travalyst which promotes sustainable tourism and improving the impact on the planet from travel. Prince Harry founded the initiative in 2019 and the website states: “The goal is to bring credible, consistent sustainability information to the mainstream, helping both travellers and travel companies make better, greener choices”.
Harry and Meghan’s controversial new website
The new website is also thought to be a red flag to the royal family and could see further fallout for Meghan and Harry with their royal relatives in the UK and it’s unlikely they will be repairing any relationships. PR and Media Expert Natalie Trice spoke exclusively to the Mirror as she explained: “The commercial use of their royal heritage might conflict with palace protocol and this will no doubt play out in the media in the coming days. The launch’s timing, amid significant health news within the royal family, could exacerbate public and private rifts. It suggests a need for the couple to carefully think about their brand strategy, seeking consistency and depth over-reactive measures and maybe their team needs to dig deep on next moves before it’s crisis comms action again.
“This situation doesn’t seem likely to resolve quickly, with emotionally charged discussions ahead. It’s unfortunate that a path to leveraging their royal ties effectively, while achieving the desired independence, remains elusive and much of the world are watching to see the next steps either side makes.”
