The Saudi carrier becomes the region’s first operator of Airbus’s new long-range narrow-body aircraft as part of its international expansion strategy.
Saudia has announced the delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR, making it the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate the type. The aircraft, powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines, is the first of 15 units ordered by the carrier.
This delivery is part of the airline’s fleet modernization program and supports the expansion of its international network under the Saudi Vision 2030 strategy. Saudia currently serves more than 100 destinations across four continents.
With a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, the A321XLR enables long-haul operations with a single-aisle aircraft while delivering a 30% reduction in fuel consumption per seat compared to previous-generation models.
The aircraft delivered to Saudia features a premium configuration with 24 fully lie-flat Business Class seats and 120 Economy Class seats. Airbus further noted that all its aircraft are already capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a target of 100% compatibility by 2030.
