A heartbroken woman was forced to divorce her new husband just two weeks after their wedding when she heard what happened during his stag do.

Taking to the Reddit thread r/Marriage, users shared their experiences of getting married and divorced in less than three months and explained what went wrong in such a short time.

The original poster said they thought it only happened ‘in reality shows’, but had reconsidered after a good friend announced her divorce just a few months after getting married.

One user, believed to be based in the US, then described how the daughter of her parents’ best friend had been in this situation, filing for divorce just weeks after her very expensive destination wedding.

The woman in question heard that her partner had cheated on her ‘multiple times’ at his bachelor party, despite sharing a one-year-old child together.

And in a further twist to the story, she actually found out before the wedding even took place, and was forced to go through with it by her father who had paid for it.

Left with no other option, the woman tied the knot with her husband during the lavish nuptials abroad, but two weeks later filed for divorce.

The Reddit user wrote: ‘She had a destination wedding, stupid expensive with this guy who she already had a rocky relationship with, they had a child together (like 1 year old?)

‘He cheated on her multiple times at his bachelor party. She tried to call the wedding off like 3 days before they were set to leave.

‘Her dad basically said “nope, everything’s paid for already” (remember it was a destination wedding so all of the guests had already bought their airline tickets and booked their stay).

‘She had the wedding, they came home, something like 2 weeks later she was filing for divorce.’

They added that no one had known the wedding was fake, and assumed ‘societal pressure’ had made them go through with it despite knowing the relationship was doomed.

Despite the betrayal by the woman’s partner, Reddit users took aim at the dad for forcing the wedding to go ahead despite his daughter’s clear discomfort.

One person wrote: ‘Aww what a s***y dad. I don’t have a good relationship with mine, but if I had ever expressed doubt, no amount of money would have stopped him from helping me get out of the wedding.’

Others said: ‘At that point if you can’t cancel bookings, apologise to everyone and try and have a group holiday instead. Just scrap the ceremony.’

Another compared the experience to their own: ‘When my dad was walking me down the aisle at my wedding, he turned to me and said “you know, it’s not too late to back out if you want”. SUCH a wonderful man. I did get married—still happily so after 39 years.’

The original poster added: ‘They’ve known each other since highschool he’s a good “friend” but probably not a great dad after giving that advice!

‘No one knew the wedding was a sham, he only told my dad this in confidence after discussing what happened. Everyone at the wedding thought love was in the air!!’

It appears marriage troubles have been in the air on social media in recent months.

Earlier this month, a husband admitted that he is debating divorcing his wife because she didn’t take him seriously when he had a sinus infection.

The unnamed 29-year-old man took to Reddit to describe the situation in a thread titled, Am I Overreacting?

He explained that his illness made him realize that his wife, 28, ‘doesn’t really care’ about him.

The man noted that he was hospitalized for eight days with a severe sinus infection.

He claimed that his wife’s behavior during his sickness made him question if she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with

The man begged people on the web for advice as he questioned whether or not he was blowing the situation out of proportion.

He titled the post: ‘Am I overreacting for wanting to divorce my wife based on her behavior while I was sick?’
