And there were plenty of people who joined in the fun at the Ayr Bay Yacht Club’s event in Irvine.
The Ayrshire-wide group sail radio-controlled yachts three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays at the Beach Park pond in Irvine.
The open day gave members of the public the chance to sail the yachts and learn up more about the pastime.
Club members came along with their own radio-controlled yachts and were on hand to provide help and instructions to anyone who wished to join in.
Club secretary Bill Lees said: “We are constently asked about what we are doing and how things work, so we decided to give people a chance to try it out for themselves.
“We and wanted to promote the interests and growth of radio controlled sailing yachts in the area with a view to enhancing the use of Irvine Beach Park pond for the betterment of the town and the surrounding district.
“Club members supplied all yachts and equipment and thisgavea good opportunity for the public to try out a new hobby.
“There is no barrier to gender or age to take part – just a desire to sail a model yacht on the pond and enjoy a very excellent and inexpensive hobby.”
