An engine failure left the 35ft vessel stricken off the Dorset coast prompting Weymouth’s RNLI lifeboat crew to initiate a rescue just before 6am.
Upon finding the catamaran, it was decided to tow it back to the harbour.
A spokesperson for Weymouth Lifeboat Station said: “Weymouth volunteer lifeboat crew launched aboard ALB Ernest and Mabel early this morning to assist a 35ft catamaran that had suffered engine failure off the Dorset coast.
“After assessing the situation, the casualty vessel was taken safely under tow and returned to Weymouth Harbour.
“A big thank you to all of our volunteer crew, HM Coastguard and everyone involved in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.
“Remember, if you’re heading out on the water, always ensure your vessel is well maintained, carry suitable means of calling for help, and let someone know your plans before you leave.”
