Last week, Callum Turner established himself as the most stylish groom of summer 2026 when he wore an immaculate tone-on-tone Ferragamo suit to marry Dua Lipa in a civil ceremony in London. For the couple’s second wedding ceremony this past weekend in Sicily, however, he was back with a lighter but equally moodboard-worthy swerve in the form of an immaculate Louis Vuitton khaki suit. Turner’s three-button jacket and wide, slightly flared trousers might not work for everyone (a three-button jacket tends to look best on taller dudes like Turner, who is 6’1”), but don’t let that distract from the more important message here: a khaki suit is the unsung hero of wedding season.
Cotton khaki trousers are a foundational element of the modern male wardrobe, but pair them with a matching khaki jacket and something strange happens: they become one of the most maligned pieces in the tailoring universe. Much of this comes down to politics. When President Barack Obama wore a tan suit in August 2014, the ensuing frenzy of criticism imbued the otherwise benign garment with a whiff of controversy. The whole thing was a bit ridiculous, but if Tan Suit Gate taught us anything, it’s that even in the heat of August, a light-colored suit will always feel less serious than a darker one.

“A khaki suit feels distinctly celebratory,” says Jake Mueser, founder of the New York tailoring house J.Mueser. “It signals you’re dressing for an occasion, not the office—a subtle shift that makes it especially well-suited to summer weddings.”
Not only does the lighter coloring of a tan or khaki suit lend itself well to the sunny greens and deep browns of vineyards, gardens, and other outdoor venues in a way that darker suiting doesn’t, but most versions are cut from lightweight wool, linen, or cotton fabric that’s designed to keep you cool. “A linen suit is without question the best choice for summer,” offers Alex Crane, a Brooklyn-based designer who specializes in the gauzy fabric. “Linen is naturally breathable, heat-regulating, and quick drying—you’ll look cool when everyone else is sweating.”
