MASKANDI stars Mthandeni SK and Khuzani Mpungose stole the show at the traditional wedding of Mthandeni’s dancer, Tekisi Ntetha.
The grand celebration took place in Melmoth, north of KZN, on Sunday, 28 June 2026, and turned into an unexpected rivalry between the two music giants.
Wedding turns into a star-studded spectacle
The wedding was going smoothly until the two stars arrived. Tekisi and Khuzani’s niece, Nomfundo Mpungose, exchanged vows before headman Nomalenje Zungu.
Shortly afterwards, Mthandeni SK made a dramatic entrance, arriving by helicopter before pulling up in a Ford Raptor, accompanied by two white bodyguards. He immediately stole the show.
Minutes later, Khuzani arrived in his Land Rover Defender and also grabbed the spotlight.
Guests were divided, with some cheering for Mthandeni and others for Khuzani. Many were excited to see the two stars together.
No rivalry, just celebration

But this was no ordinary wedding. It brought rivals Mthandeni SK and Khuzani Mpungose together, not to perform, but to celebrate someone close to them.
What made it even more special was that Tekisi is Khuzani’s former dancer and childhood friend. He danced for Khuzani from 2011 before joining Mthandeni in 2021. He was also marrying Khuzani’s niece.
Mthandeni SK told Daily Sun the day was never about competition.
“There is no war between me and my rival. We were not showing off – we simply wish everyone to congratulate Tekisi for having a colourful traditional wedding,” he said.
“I took Tekisi’s wedding invitation seriously. That’s why I used the chopper to attend.”
Daily Sun was unable to reach Khuzani for comment. However, in a previous interview, he said that although Tekisi left him to join his rival, he would always remain like a brother because they grew up together.
Tekisi (32) said he was overwhelmed to have both Maskandi stars attend his wedding.
“It was history for a dancer like me. I thank both Mthandeni and Khuzani for honouring my wedding. I have been in a relationship with Nomfundo since 2014,” he said.
